Conversations with Level 3 Intelligent Characters

2020.11.27 07:32 timecubefanfiction Conversations with Level 3 Intelligent Characters

If you’re anything like me, when you read something with particularly vivid characters, their voices stick around with you for days or weeks after you finish the book. After finishing HPMOR, for example, I had a cynical professor following me around everywhere going, Ah, perhaps you only pretend to care about brushing your teeth. Tell me, have you actually investigated whether Colgate Whitening Plus with Fruity Mint Flavor is truly the ideal toothpaste, or do you only use it because it is expected of you?
Similarly, I live with a grumpy yet remarkably insightful policeman every time I finish a Vimes book. Revisiting Huckleberry Finn gives me the company of a boy lacking book smarts but with a remarkable ability to see the moral truth right in front of his nose (and very good tips about fishing and good living). 19th century romance novels tend to give me matronly women evaluating potential romantic partners for me on the basis of their economic and social suitability. (This last one is surprisingly useful.)
I just finished reading Strong Female Protagonist, the superhero webcomic our society needs but definitely doesn’t deserve, and as a consequence there’s a blonde invincible chick in my head who wants to know whether writing stupid things for the Internet is really the best way for me to spend my time.
It’s great. Go read the first three chapters because I’m about to spoil them, and it’s great so you should just read it first.
Seriously, go read it. Reddit will still be here when you get back. I promise—NAY, I PRECOMMIT—to upvote your comment if you take a month to reply because you were reading the first three chapters.
Strong Female Protagonist, or SFP from here on, becomes full-blown rationalist fiction in chapter three, and I’m going to spend half of this essay just gushing about it.
Chapter three sees our main character and Super(wo)man stand-in, Alison Green, on a road trip with her mind-reading Lex Luthor of a boyfriend, Patrick, to visit an old friend of hers. On the way, Alison and Patrick bond over conversation about movies, burgers, and the dark recesses of the human soul. Their trip takes them into the heart of the South, and they are unpleasantly greeted at the hospital they arrive at by a Christian receptionist with a decidedly Satanic attitude. Patrick informs Alison that his telepathy, which he cannot control, direct, or turn off, has uncovered an important secret of the person they’re visiting. Alison thanks him and goes in alone to see her old friend, Feral.
Feral is a regenerator, basically Wolverine on steroids. You can stick a sword in her face and she’ll just find it annoying. She stops dudes from getting away by chopping off her own feet to stuff in the tailpipes of their cars. Alison and Feral once teamed up to fight crime, where Alison’s straight-laced comic-book seriousness made for an odd-couple clash with Feral’s drinking, smoking, cursing, fuck-the-plan-and-let-me-at-’em ways, but as they eat bullets and throw shoes at psychics together, they realize they have a lot in common and develop a friendship.
So Feral kisses Alison, Alison punches Feral through a window, and with all of the psychics defeated, they part ways. While Alison is busy being the poster child for what government-controlled child superheroes should be, Feral’s life falls apart. Her local support group collapses, and Feral isn’t good at anything except not dying. She makes a lot of bad decisions and hurts a lot of people while she tries to figure out her life—or rather, tries to figure out how to die.
Then she turns on the TV and sees Alison do what Alison does in chapter 2: quit.
Basically, the inciting event of SFP is the one where Alison Green aka Mega Girl aka Girl Superman declares on live national television that being a superhero is stupid. Having defeated all of the giant robots and clown-themed bank robbers before the start of the story, she announces that her expertise on punching things really hard does not translate into expertise on solving all of the remaining problems of poverty, social justice, hatred, politics, and emotional issues—all of the problems that actually exist, instead of being invented by an author for the sake of exciting comic book battles.
Alison takes off the mask and goes to college to learn how to solve all of the world’s problems, which is the expected skill set of a recent college graduate. And Feral, having experienced her own life problems totally failing to be solved by her superhero lifestyle, decides to do the other thing you can do instead of going to college, which is take a year off to explore the world.
Feral travels. Having never really been out of the Deep South before, has her mind blown by the kinds of things she sees and the people she meets in Europe and Asia. And because she’s a regenerator, when her mind is blown, it comes back together, bigger and better than before.
There are two really significant experiences Feral has while overseas, as she explains to Alison in her hospital room. One is simply seeing all the different ways that people with powers (“anomalies,” as they’re called in the comic) are treated depending on the culture. In America, everyone is expected to be a superhero and fight crime. In Western Europe, you’re expected to be a normal person who might be able to fly or turn invisible or something. In India, you’re a deity involved in some complex cultural conflict.
And second, Feral sees a lot of poor people. She meets a tremendous number of people suffering in all kinds of ways, and she has no idea how to help them.
Because there’s no one to beat up, and yet that's the only problem-solving skill she has.
So in the span of just a few pages we watch Feral’s worldview alter radically. Her sense of the size of the world, and the amount of suffering in it, expands from her hometown in Mississippi to something global in scale. And between Alison’s public declaration and the different ways people with superpowers behave around the world, Feral starts to realize that she doesn’t have to conceive of her anomaly as something that’s only useful for fighting.
She starts to connect these ideas: What can I do about all this suffering? and What can I do with my power?
The conversation ends. Alison meets back up with Patrick, whose telepathy has uncovered the full details of Feral’s plan. Patrick explains that Feral plans to spent the rest of her life in perpetual surgery, her organs constantly being harvested to donate to needy people to save as many lives as possible. This plan will require her to be in constant agony and leave her no time whatsoever for anything remotely resembling a personal life. She is to become an organ farm for the human race.
Alison is understandably horrified. But after getting over her initial shock, her subsequent conversation with Patrick reveals that her problem with Feral’s decision isn’t the size of Feral’s sacrifice but rather how little it will accomplish. Donating organs will save lives but do nothing to address the poverty and institutional problems that makes saving those lives necessary in the first place.
Tired of having the most depressing conversations in the universe, Alison flirts over Loony Tunes, steals all the chocolate in the world, and goes to bed.
Alison and Patrick return to the hospital the next day, where they are greeted by the sight of a group of protesters. These protesters are a bunch of white, angry Deep South Christians protesting the donation of superpowered organs. They are portrayed in a deliberately stereotypical fashion: the spitting image of the sort of “real American” Christian whose ignorance of science is only exceeded by their ignorance of the Bible—the protesters helpfully carry signs that say things like “Share the Body of Christ, Not the Body of Satan” and “Not what the Founding Fathers wanted.” Alison, a liberal, college-going New Yorker, is about as interested in their ideas as you’d expect.
Anyway, Alison goes in to the hospital to try to talk Feral out of her plan. There’s also another powered individual there that Feral knows from London, a teleporter named Johnny trying to talk her out of it as well, albeit from a very different perspective than Alison. Alison and Johnny argue, Feral declares her intention to follow through with her idea despite their objections, and says her goodbyes. Many tears are shed. But not by me. Because I am very tough and do not cry.
While Alison and Johnny continue their debate out in the lobby, Feral is strapped down to begin the never-ending operation. The receptionist from earlier lets a masked man in through the back who barges into Feral’s operating room with a flamethrower, incinerating the doctors and Feral (though the latter recovers.)
Alison bursts in and one-punches the man through a wall, killing him. She then goes out to the protesters, identifying their attitude as the driving force behind the attack on Feral and the doctors, and threatens to murder them all if they don’t give up the people behind the attack. A police officer tries to arrest her. She eats his gun.
Patrick attempts to calm her down by pointing out that he can blackmail these people much more efficiently than she can intimidate them. Finally, Feral’s still-regenerating body crawls out to put herself between Alison and the scared fuckhead protesters. Alison takes a chill pill and the chapter ends with her visiting a supervillain to talk about her fantasies of mass murder and finally her megalomaniacal desire to make the world as good a place as it can possibly be. Yay!
With the events summarized, there’s a lot of amazing things about this chapter from a rationalist fiction perspective and I’m just going to talk about some of them in no particular order.
Ideological Conflict
One of the most obviously impressive things about SFP is the realistic and engaging ideological disputes in which conflicting viewpoints are all represented in ways that feel very honest and real. There are various examples throughout the chapter, but the clearest one is the debate between Alison, Feral, and Johnny in the hospital room about the moral correctness of Feral’s decision.
Alison, Feral, and Johnny are extremely different people. Alison is a trained, experienced soldier with great parents and a great education. She’s intelligent, caring, and just a teensy bit fed up with the way the world is. Feral, meanwhile, is poorly educated and grew up in the poverty of the Deep South. She’s as broken up by her lack of faith in her own ability to make the world a better place as she is by all of the suffering in said world that needs to be made better.
Finally, Johnny is a London fashion designer. He’s wealthy, cool, and all about enjoying the life that’s given to you. He’s also a teleporter, but as he makes clear, this is of secondary importance when describing him.
Alison and Johnny are both here to talk Feral out of her plan, but from completely different points of view. Hilariously, they end up arguing with each other more than with Feral.
Basically, Alison thinks Feral’s plan doesn’t go far enough. Feral’s plan doesn’t solve poverty or death or institutional problems that preserve poverty and shitty health care systems. And it sets an impossible bar for self-sacrifice that other people won't be able to meet. Meanwhile, Johnny totally rejects Feral’s selflessness—as he says, “Your life is nobody else’s to lead. You don’t owe those fucking people anything.”
Alison politely invites Johnny to go fuck himself. Feral jumps in to defend Johnny’s right to share his viewpoint—from Alison’s perspective and ours, Johnny is an intruder, but from Feral’s perspective, Johnny is a close friend she invited to be here to say goodbye to. Alison tries to further articulate what’s wrong with Feral’s plan: “Give a man a heart, and then what? Watch him get obliterated in the next ethnic cleansing or natural disaster.”
That's when Johnny decides that Alison has jumped the shark. Of course Feral is doing the right thing. That’s the problem! He blames Alison for infecting Feral with do-gooder morality: “My God, stop! Can’t you see you’ve already got her ass-over-tea-kettle with your nonsense?”
Feral rejects both of their viewpoints. She can’t be self-centered like Johnny. And as she tells Alison, “I know you wanna fix it so the day stays saved forever. But it might not shake out that way, and until it does, the rest of us got helpin’ to do.”
That’s the end of the conversation. To me, what’s most impressive and most subtle about it is how intensely emotional it is. Each character clearly has an ideological viewpoint—Alison’s “figure out the best possible thing and do it,” Johnny’s “Obsessing over morality fucks everything up, live for yourself,” and Feral’s “I’m going to do what I can to help people right now.” Yet while these perspectives are presented unambiguously, no one ever lectures or sounds like a typed-up explanation of a particular point of view. Instead, they all struggle to articulate themselves, cut each other off, and express their perspectives in ways unique to their own personalities and the details of the situation at hand. In particular, Alison and Johnny end up arguing with each other more than with Feral even though they share the goal of talking Feral out of her plan because they find each other so morally incomprehensible.
But the writer must have comprehended both of them in order to write them.
They’re all quite persuasive, too.
Reproducible cognitive development
When we are introduced to Feral, we learn two things about her very quickly: one is that she’s violent and backwards and barely aware of, let alone concerned about the bigger picture, and two is that she’s quite intelligent.
(We also learn that she’s all kinds of gay, but that’s not relevant to this essay. It is relevant to my forthcoming essay: “Rationalist Fiction: Gay As All Hell?”)
So despite the fact that Alison went to a good school and has modern liberal parents who invested every economic and emotional resource they could into her whereas Feral grew up in the Third World of the United States, they develop a chemistry and a rapport. Alison is a nerd, as Feral repeatedly observes, whereas Feral spends her time in bars and has lots of sex, and yet Alison is ultimately quite comfortable in Feral’s company, and a big part of that is because Feral is smart enough for Alison to enjoy talking to her.
But Alison is taking on threats around the globe whereas Feral is taking on threats around her neighborhood. So they don’t see each other for a while. Feral, like most people, ends up conforming to the standards of her peer group, which unfortunately is quite low. Her local gang of powered buddies are drug users or violent criminals or just plain losers. Until finally, seeing that Alison has gone to college—basically a foreign country in and of itself to Feral’s catlike eyes—she decides to get out of the United States and see the world.
Feral’s journey consists of about five pages depending on when you want to start counting. Yet the experience it conveys rings incredibly true to me as someone who also traveled the world and found it mind-opening. Instead of deciding to sacrifice my own welfare to provide the world’s entire organ supply, I chose to write dumb reddit posts, but otherwise it was basically the same thing.
So much about Feral’s gradually evolving mindset is conveyed in such a tight space that it allows the reader to go along with her while being thoroughly entertained. One way you could state the basic concept of a Level 1 -> 2 -> 3 intelligent character is that they represent increasing levels to which you can follow along with the character’s thoughts without something going wrong.
A level 1 character is someone whose thoughts you can follow without breaks—someone whose thoughts are continuous (but not necessarily differentiable). They don’t just stop thinking or suddenly swerve in some unexplainable way to make the story work.
A level 2 character is someone whose thoughts you can follow along with and be genuinely impressed by their intelligence because their thoughts did something with the details of the story that your own thoughts didn’t but in retrospect probably should have.
A level 3 character is someone whose thoughts are so imbued with a helpful cognitive pattern, or whose thoughts evolve from something common but not helpful to something uncommon and remarkably more useful, that the simple act of reading their thoughts can reproduce said pattern or prompt said evolution in the mind of the reader.
Note that in this definition a level 3 intelligent character can be stupider than a level 2 character. Feral is not a genius; she’s smart enough to keep up with someone going to a decent private school and that’s all.
(Then there are level 4 intelligent characters. These are characters written so vividly, whose intelligence is represented so faithfully on the page that they actually are intelligent and can, with time and resources, escape the boundaries of their book bindings. There is only one rule for level 4 intelligent characters: NEVER WRITE LEVEL 4 INTELLIGENT CHARACTERS!)
I’ve never tested this—and am totally not a hypocrite—but I’d imagine that Feral’s story could genuinely help a lot of people experience the same kind of development that she did. It’s easy for me to imagine a young person reading this story and using Feral’s journey to take themselves out of their local concerns and into the realm of thinking about global issues and serious moral questions.
Within the comic itself, the test of Feral’s level 3ness (do NOT start going around evaluating characters by whether they are level 1, 2, or 3 intelligent, it is NOT THE POINT!) is that Alison can follow her thoughts and receive Feral’s cognitive patterns to such an extent that Alison can use them to learn about her own reasons for disagreeing with Feral.
(Feral can be wrong because her evolved cognitive pattern is a useful improvement over her previous one which saw her in a downward spiral, but hardly represents the best or only way to think. Saying that a character has level 3 intelligence is an empirical assertion, not a compliment.)
Alison talks it over with her telepathic buddy Patrick, whose mind-reading skills help him to articulate thoughts that she’s too emotionally overwhelmed by to discuss. To wit, Feral’s cognitive evolution constitutes going from animal-like selfishness with no greater understanding and no moral concerns beyond securing her local environment to global moral concern—or, as Patrick puts it, “trying to save the world.” And in perceiving that this is how Feral thinks, Alison, through Patrick, is able to recognize that her thinking has gone beyond saving the world to changing it.
In other words, Alison learns by exploring her model of Feral’s mind, which she’s able to do because there is a model of Feral’s mind which is strong enough to reproduce Feral’s mental patterns when tested against ideas that do not come from Feral’s mind.
Writing the alien
You have to comprehend Draco as a truly alien intelligence, sapient and capable of complex language use, yet so extremely different from life as you know it that he doesn’t even know what a gene is. You have to leave the comfortable confines of your own mind and enter a mind with different concepts and heuristics, a mind that is still a powerful intelligence even though it doesn’t agree with you about certain things.
(Read the comic up through chapter three before you let me spoil this one for you. It’s genuinely a great moment in comics, web-based or other.)
When Alison and Patrick get started on their road trip, Alison wants to put on some music because she is a human being. Patrick, a telepath who cannot turn off his telepathy, requests something without lyrics. He finds it disconcerting to hear a human voice without being able to hear the thoughts behind it. Similarly, he hates watching movies and TV because he can see people moving and talking but he cannot hear their thoughts.
After their emotionally draining conversation about Feral’s plan and some other horrific stuff, Alison decides they are going to watch some TV. Patrick protests that he hates watching people on a screen, so Alison has a bright idea and puts on Loony Tunes. Patrick, who had a bit of a rough childhood, has never seen a cartoon before. He studies the screen intently as the classic gag plays out in front of him: Bugs Bunny versus Daffy Duck as they debate who is to be blasted in the face by the hunter, Elmer Fudd. Daffy Duck insists it is rabbit season, Bugs Bunny declares it to be duck season instead. They go back and forth with the intensity of Federer and Nadal: Rabbit season! Duck season! Rabbit season! Duck season! Suddenly a switch: Bugs Bunny says rabbit season. Daffy Duck is so caught up in the pattern of contradicting Bugs that he declares it to be duck season. Moreover, he announces that he's done with the argument, and so promptly gets shot in the face.
And Patrick bursts out laughing. He cracks up like a crazy person. It’s literally the funniest thing he’s ever seen. Because Patrick is a telepath, jokes cannot surprise him. He always sees the punchline coming. And watching live action movies or TV just feels wrong. But a cartoon? He’s not expecting to be able to read Bugs Bunny’s mind. And so the joke hits him with enough shock to reduce him to tears.
(Also, pay attention, fellas: It’s at the moment of him loving Loony Tunes with an undiminished boyish passion that Alison starts making eyes at Patrick. More webcomic-based dating tips to follow!)
I don’t really have a strong conclusion. This essay was originally going to be about all of the ideological conflict in SFP but just working on its presence in chapter 3 turned into this. And there’s something about writing 4000 words about this webcomic that constitutes a self-refuting act: how can Feral be a level 3 intelligent character when I read her story and then wrote this instead of, like, donating my kidney?
But the writer and artist probably didn’t donate their kidneys either. What a pair of jerks!
Alison lives in my head right now, and I’m going to make her pay rent, damn it: If I don’t get a hundred upvotes, I’m kicking her out on her broke ass.
So while the main point of this essay is that you should go read SFP, the other point is something I don’t really understand about the point of literature, which is to collect voices in your head. Because there are level 3 characters who will make you stronger, but there are also level negative 3 characters whose thought processes will reproduce themselves in your mind evilly, like a wasp laying its eggs inside you. These are thought processes which will make you angry and stupid and selfish and a victim of your own mind.
The purpose of reading—the whole dang point of it, I’m going to unjustifiably assert here—is to collect voices in your head for the sake of using them to augment your powers, pretty much exactly like equipping the right Charms in Hollow Knight for the next boss. Some Charms will give you the ability to fly and shoot laser beams and become invulnerable—metaphorically speaking—and others will drain your health and sap your will to fight.
I also realize that some people probably don’t have voices in their heads just like some people don’t have images in their heads, and the empirical implication of my above assertion is that these people don’t read, and that probably isn’t true, so I guess I’m wrong.
but, um
At the end of the chapter, Alison visits her old nemesis, Cleaver, a mass murderer, a bladed, mutated monstrosity and one of a very small number of people who’s even remotely a match for her physically, inside his specially designed prison. I’m gonna let Mega Girl close this one out.
And here’s the thing, Cleaver! I’m not really that different from you. I look like how I look and you look like how you look. The people that were supposed to take care of you didn’t. The people that were supposed to take care of me did. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were only a handful of moments, a handful of decisions that make up the difference between you and me.
Why are you telling me this?
Because I know what it’s like to feel alone. I know what it’s like to live in a paper world, to be good at hurting people, to think everybody should just shut up and do what you say. And then I remember that deep down, people are good, everybody’s trying and nobody deserves respect just for being powerful. So if I’ve got the voice in my head that tells me to crush people, then I think you probably have the voice that says the other thing too. If people keep calling us heroes and villains, they’ll never know how close we came to listening to the other voice all those times.
Mega Girl! If people were as good as you say they are, they’d know it’s your choice to help them. If your parents hadn’t raised you to be a good little girl, they’d be fucked. The only reason their world makes sense is because you keep it that way. Do you really think they deserve all of this?
No. They deserve better.

2020.11.27 07:24 Scared_Spirit Dealing with religious guilt?

This post might not stay up long. I’m 19F and just reverently began college (very far away, on a scholarship, so don’t have to abide by their standards anymore) after living with extremely conservative parents. I didn’t leave the house at all in high school, couldn’t date until my senior year, didn’t wear makeup, etc., (my family is Pentecostal). feel like I’m living some sort of double life, I come home and the church family/my actual parents still act like I’m a perfectly innocent Christian girl. I feel more guilty that I don’t feel as much guilt over the fact I’m deceiving them, in all honesty. The more recent and “bigger” things like drinking in a safe environment with my friends or sex/exploring my sexuality, which I know should make me feel bad, don’t. And that alone feels kind of heavy. It’s like I am supposed to feel bad, and I’m trying to. Does it ever go away? I hope it gets easier, I want it to.

2020.11.27 05:06 PenguinSparkles007 My (18F) mother’s (53F) emotional immaturity and Puritannical views are making it difficult to maintain a relationship with her

My mom has always been a bit childish, which is likely due to a bunch of unprocessed trauma from strict religious upbringing. I don’t blame her, of course, but she’s always so fragile and helpless, and my dad has autism, so as the eldest child I’ve been forced to step up as emotional support since I was out of the womb. My mom sometimes talks about how I’m so relaxed and mellow (which I’m absolutely not) and how I’ve always helped her by giving her hugs and saying things like “it’s okay, mommy,” “everything will be alright,” ect. A kid shouldn’t have to be in that position, and it makes me angry whenever she brings it up. She’s broken down and cried to me about completely inappropriate things, like her relationship with my dad or her feelings of inferiority. She’s also very Christian and has all the views you’d typically tie to that. She’s anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ+, sometimes a but racist, has very strict ideas about gender roles, and believes that any sex outside of marriage is immoral. I don’t agree with any of her opinions, and when I came out as bisexual I had to have a very long talk with her about how gay people didn’t force me to be gay and a whole manner of other things. Now recently I’ve been dating a man, and in the interests of not getting pregnant, I decided to get an IUD. I paid for it myself, made my own doctors’ appointments, and was planning on not telling anyone about it. Unfortunately, I had pretty severe side effects following the IUD insertion. I threw up, got nauseous, faint, and had cramps so bad I couldn’t walk. It was, without a doubt, the most physically painful day of my life. I was planning on just going back to work after getting it, but I was in too much pain to stay. I called my mom and asked her to pick me up. I ended up telling her I got the IUD, which was a bad decision, but I was in a lot of pain and couldn’t think straight, plus if my body decided to reject it or I had some complications (which is rare, but it happens,) then someone else would have to help me and know what was going on. I stayed in bed for several hours and thankfully I feel absolutely fine now. At dinner that night my mom brought up prevention, and how the most important thing is to not have sex before marriage. She told me that I had bought into the lie modern media sells young people in order to corrupt their souls, that I was thoughtless and hadn’t reflected on it properly (because any opinion that isn’t hers is, in her mind, always wrong,) and that when you have sex with someone you give them a piece of your spirit that you will never get back and that you will be tied to them forever. She also asked why I would want to have sex with someone I wasn’t married to, and I just said that it was fun. She just looked at me with judgment. I got up and left. I pride myself in questioning what I’m taught and don’t accept things people say unless they can debate me into a corner. My ability to think for myself is something I take pride in, and being told that I am a sheep without offering any counter arguments is the best way to piss me off. I do what I’m comfortable with, research beforehand, and make my own choices for my own body. My boyfriend is a mature guy who respects my boundaries and I feel safe with him. My mom just assuming she knows me better than I do when I’ve all but been her mom my whole life is driving me up the wall. I can’t deal with her self-righteousness and the way she judges anyone who doesn’t live up to her standards. It’s so hard to be civil to her sometimes.

2020.11.26 23:29 Glittering_Ad_8365 Black F interested in dating Asian M, any tips about how I should go about it

I'm a 20yr old black female from U.S.A. that has been interested in dating Asian guys since a teen but had no luck. One guy I liked was Filipino but I didn't have the guts to the tell him that I liked him and the other was Malaysian & Singaporean but never gave me an answer, later coming out as gay in college. Both guys were American born and raised. I am not going to lie, I think my preference for Asian guys come from my time days of watching a lot of anime and badminton tournaments. Many of my friends when I tell them this they think I have a fetish but personally I don't think so. I know that there are many types of Asians around the whole U.S.A from the b-boyers, weeks, fobs, soccer players, sneaker heads, nerds, ghetto, pots heads/drug abuser, ravers, kpop/k drama and etc.
I have a personal standard on what type of Asian I would date: 5'5 or taller, looks 5 - 9, likes dancing, sports, exploring, deep conversations, christian, does no drugs (edibles are acceptable), and is an ambivert, etc.
I'm 5'4, looks usually scale 5 - 7, 190lbs, curvy, 38 - 36 - 45 and a college student.
Sometimes I think it's my looks or figure that prevents my from getting a chance but really I don't know I'm friendly and is willing to ask them first instead of waiting a long period of time, but nothing seems to be working.
Any advice?

2020.11.25 23:24 CatEyes420 How the Rothschilds took over the World (long but informative)

Amschel Moses Rothschild was born in about 1710. He was a German Jewish silk trader and money changer in the Judengasse (Jewstreet) in Frankfurt. Around 1743 he placed a red hexagram sign (which numerically and geometrically convert into the number 666) above the entrance of his door. His house was also red in color.
Within two centuries, the Rothschild, instructed this hexagram sign to be made part of the Israeli flag 🇮🇱. He had 8 children with Schönche Lechnich, one of his sons, Mayer Amschel Rothschild (1744-1812), is the founder of the Rothschild banking dynasty. He marries Guttle SchnappeSchönche Lechnich (Rothschild) in 1770, and they have 10 children together.
Around 1760, Mayer Amschel Bauer worked for a bank owned by the Oppenheimer (are part of Rothschild family/married, had children together..). Mayer was very successful and became a junior partner, where he meets General von Estorff.
After Mayer Amschel Bauer’s father Moses Amschel Bauer died, Mayer changed his name from Bauer to Rothschild (Rot = red / Schild = sign).
Mayer Amschel Rothschild and his sons establish what was known as the Five Arrows of Banking. These golden arrows can be seen on the eagle’s talons visible on the coat of arms city from Frankfurt, Germany. It represented the 5 sons who managed the global banking Houses of the Rothschild which included:
• Frankfurt • London • Paris • Vienna • Napl
Mayer discovers that General von Estorff is aquatinted with the court of Prince William IX, Landgrave of Hesse-Hanau (known today as Hesse-Kassel) (married?). The royal house of William obtained its’ wealth by the hiring out or exporting their soldiers to foreign countries for major profit.
Mayer began selling William IX rare trinkets, treasures, and coins at extra low prices. Eventually, as planned, Mayer is introduced to the Prince himself, who is delighted with the modified prices. Mayer even offers the prince a perk for any new business opportunities, William could direct his way. As a result, Mayer Amschel Rothschild and Prince William join forces and become business accomplices.
In 1769, Prince William grants Mayer approval to hang a sign on his business storefront declaring that he is, “M. A. Rothschild, by appointment court factor to his serene highness, Prince William of Hanau.”
In 1773, Amschel Mayer Rothschild is born, eventually he would take over the Frankfurt bank. He is the first of Mayer’s sons who will all eventually enter the family business at 12 years of age. He is followed by Salomon Mayer Rothschild, in 1774.
In 1776, Mayer Amschel Rothschild creates the Illuminati and hands over the organizations development to Adam Weishaupt. Weishaupt sneaks in the Continental Order of Freemasons with this Illuminati doctrine. This doctrine claims a new order for the human race under the dictatorship of Satan and his supporters. This view is accepted and spread like a wildfire and is pursued in Masonic Lodges worldwide to this day.
In 1777, Nathan Mayer Rothschild is born, who is followed by Kalmann (Carl) Mayer Rothschild/Carl Mayer Freiherr von Rothschild in 1788. Carl is the founder of the Rothschild banking family of Naples. He had child named Adolf Carl....
In 1791, Alexander Hamilton, (a Rothschild representative in George Washington’s cabinet) and the Rothschilds, infiltrated a central bank in the newly established United States colonies. This bank was know as the Bank of the United States and was organized with a 20 year charter.
“Jacob” or “James” Mayer de Rothschild or Baron de Rothschild is born in 1792. Originally named Jakob Mayer Rothschild. He is the youngest child of Mayer. He was a German-French banker and is the founder of the French banking branch of the Rothschild family. He had 5 children.
Amschel Mayer Rothschild marries Eva Hanau in 1796.
In 1798, Mayer, grants his son, Nathan Mayer Rothschild, a major sum of money, and sends him to England, to advance the family interests in importing textile. This allowed him to establish a bank in the City of London known as N. M. Rothschild & Sons.
In 1806, Prince William, escapes Germany and assigns his $3,000,000 fortune over to Mayer Amschel Rothschild for guardianship, because Napoleon made it his objective to abolish the rulership and influence of the house of Hess-Cassel.
Nathan Mayer also marries Rothschild Hannah Barent Cohen during this time.
In 1808, Nathan Mayer Rothschild has his first child, Lionel Nathan de Rothschild.
In 1810, Mayer entered into a formal partnership agreement with his three eldest sons. Abraham Goldsmid and Sir Francis Baring die, leaving Nathan Mayer Rothschild as the last major remaining banker in England.
Salomon Mayer Rothschild launches the bank, M. von Rothschild und Söhne in Vienna, Austria. And Calmann ("Carl") established the branch in Naples, Italy.
The youngest son Jacob, was sent to Paris in 1811, strengthening the family's ability to operate across Europe by opening the bank “de Rothschild Frères. This allowed them to profit by funding the Wellington's armies in Portugal, which required them to secure large quantities of gold in favor of the British government.
The charter established between the Rothschild and the Bank of the United States in 1791 runs out in 1811 and Congress decided to vote against its renewal.
Andrew Jackson (7th President of the U.S. from 1829 to 1837) stated, “If Congress has a right under the Constitution to issue paper money, it was given them to use by themselves, not to be delegated to individuals or corporations.”
Nathan Mayer Rothschild replied, “Either the application for renewal of the charter is granted, or the United States will find itself involved in a most disastrous war.”
In 1812, Britain, which was supported by the Rothschild empire, declared war on the United States. The Rothschilds systematically arranged this war to cause the United States to build up a major debt due to them defending themselves. Eventually, they would have to surrender which forced them to renew the charter for the Rothschild owned Bank of the United States.
Mayer Amschel Rothschild perishes. In his will, he establishes very specific rules that the Rothschild must obey:
• All major positions in the family business may only be held by family members; specifically only male members, which included a rumored sixth bastard son. (Mayer Amschel also had five daughters. Their Zionist empire also included mixed offspring of Jewish decent.) • In order to preserve their fortune they had to intermarry with their first and second cousins (16 of the 18 marriages between Mayers’ grandchildren were between first cousins). • No publication of their estates or inventory • no legal action was to be taken with respect to the value of their fortune • The oldest son of the oldest son was to become the head of the family, but this could be reversed if the bulk of the family decided otherwise.
The $3,000,000 entrusted to Mayer by Prince William is accounted for in the Jewish Encyclopaedia, 1905 edition, Volume 10, page 494, which states, “According to legend this money was hidden away in wine casks, and, escaping the search of Napoleon’s soldiers when they entered Frankfurt, was restored intact in the same casks in 1814, when the elector (Prince William IX of Hesse-Hanau) returned to the electorate (Germany). The facts are somewhat less romantic, and more businesslike.”
The money was never truly “returned” by Rothschild to Prince William, instead their families married each other for business purposes, to keep the money hidden and allowing both families to gain and grow the empire. The encyclopaedia also states, “Nathan Mayer Rothschild invested this $3,000,000 in, gold from the East India Company knowing that it would be needed for Wellington’s peninsula campaign.” The Rothschilds made, “no less than four profits: 1. i) On the sale of Wellington’s paper which he bought at 50 cents on the dollar and collected at par; 2. ii) on the sale of gold to Wellington; 3. iii) on its repurchase; and 4. iv) on forwarding it to Portugal.”
In 1815, the Rothschild brothers started their policy of financing both sides of the wars by the suppling them with gold Wellington’s army (Nathan in England) and Napoleon’s army (Jacob in France).
Since these brothers had banks spread out across Europe, it allowed them to set up an unmatched postal service grid of secret routes and couriers allowing them to be one step ahead of the crowd.
These couriers were the only ones allowed to pass through the French and English blockades, which then reported back to Nathan and kept him up to date with how the war was going allowing him to buy/sell stock successfully.
When the war ended and the British defeated Napoleon, Nathan, through past strategic planning made a return of 20:1 on his investments, which gave the Rothschilds complete control over the British economy forcing England to establish a different Bank of England, which Nathan controlled. He would later state,
“I care not what puppet is placed upon the throne of England to rule the Empire on which the sun never sets. The man who controls Britain’s money supply controls the British Empire, and I control the British money supply.”
The newly established Bank of England controlled by the Rothschilds changed their approach of shipping gold to different countries by using their five banks across Europe to set up a banking system of paper credits and, which is still used today.
In 1816, the Rothschild’s charter for the Bank of the United States was renewed for twenty more years giving the Rothschilds full control of the American money supply once again.
After the French’s defeat at Waterloo, the French attained major loans in 1817 to rebuild themselves.
In 1818, the Rothschilds, bought large amounts of French government bonds allowing them to take control of the French money supply. They also loaned the Prussian government £5,000,000.
In the year 1821, Kalmann (Carl Mayer Rothschild), was sent to Naples, Italy. There he conducted many business deals with Pope Gregory XVI and the Vatican, eventually coming up with the Order of St. George.
By 1823, the Rothschild empire has gained complete financial control over the Catholic Church operations, globally.
In 1827, Sir Walter Scott, published a nine volume set book series. In volume two he writes that the French Revolution was prepared by Adam Weishaipt’s Illuminati and funded by the Rothschilds’ European banking empire.
In 1835, the 7th president of the United States, Andrew Jackson, began placing the federal funds into banks managed by democratic bankers instead of the Rothschild governed Bank of the United States.
This lead to an assassination attempt being made on President Jackson, who would later declare that he knew the Rothschilds were at fault for the assassination attempt.
The Rothschilds gained ownership over the Almadén quicksilver mines in Spain. This was important, because quicksilver was a critical factor in the refining of gold or silver. This established a basic world monopoly for the Rothschild banking empire.
Nathan Mayer Rothschild dies in 1836. and his bank, N. M. Rothschild & Sons is taken over by his younger brother, James Mayer Rothschild.
In the year 1837, President Andrew Jackson succeeds in overthrowing the Rothschild controlled Bank of America. It wouldn’t be until the year 1913 that the Rothschilds could reestablish their third central bank in America, the (illegal) Federal Reserve.
In 1838, Amschel Mayer Rothschild declares, “Permit me to issue and control the money of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws.”
In 1840, the Rothschilds become stock brokers of the Bank of England. This allows them to set up agencies in Australia and California.
In 1844, Salomon Mayer Rothschild, buys the United Coal Mines of Vítkovice and a Hungarian Blast Furnace Company.
Jacob (James) Mayer Rothschild/Baron James de Rothschild, married his niece, Betty, who is the daughter of his brother Salomon Mayer Rothschild. James wins a deal allowing him to assemble the first major railroad line called the Chemin De Fer Du Nord, which ran from Paris to Valenciennes. Eventually this railway would join together with the Austrian rail-system built by his brother Salomon Mayer Rothschild.
In 1858, Lionel De Rothschild takes his seat in the British parliament making him the first Jewish member.
In 1861, the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln (1860-1865) secures loans through the Rothschilds to fund the American civil war via Charters, but these loans came at high interest rates (between 24% -36%).
So, Lincoln decided to print his own money, which was debt free and could be legally used in private and public debts/affairs. By April 1862, $449,338,902 of the debt free money Lincoln created was distributed.
In 1863, Italy, unifies causing the (Carl) Rothschild bank in Naples, Italy, to close. So the Rothschilds decided they would use their American assistant, John D. Rockefeller, to help establish an oil business also known as Standard Oil, who became the leader in the industry.
Alexander II (1855 – 1881), Tsar of Russia, also had issues with the Rothschilds, because he refused to let them set up a central bank in Russia. In 1864, Abraham Lincoln discovers this feud and request Tsar to help fund the Civil War. Tsar agrees and sends part of his navy to the coast of New York and California. Allowing Lincoln to win the Civil War.
In 1865, President Lincoln states in a statement to Congress, “I have two great enemies, the Southern Army in front of me, and the financial institution in the rear. Of the two, the one in my rear is my greatest foe.”
President Lincoln is assassinated later that year (1865).
Otto von Bismarck states in 1876, “The division of the United States into two federations of equal force was decided long before the civil war by the high financial power of Europe. These bankers were afraid that the United States, if they remained in one block and as one nation, would attain economical and financial independence, which would upset their financial domination over the world. The voice of the Rothschilds predominated. They foresaw the tremendous booty if they could substitute two feeble democracies, indebted to the financiers, to the vigorous Republic, confident and self-providing. Therefore they started their emissaries in order to exploit the question of slavery and thus dig an abyss between the two parts of the Republic.”
The 20th President of the United States, James A. Garfield (lasted only 100 Days) stated two weeks before he was assassinated in 1881, “Whoever controls the volume of money in our country is absolute master of all industry and commerce…and when you realize that the entire system is very easily controlled, one way or another, by a few powerful men at the top, you will not have to be told how periods of inflation and depression originate.”
Edmond James de Rothschild has a son named Maurice de Rothschild. (Adolf Hitler is really Maurice de Rothschild with fake beard and hair piece and carries out his father’s (Baron Abraham Edmond Benjamin James de Rothschild 1845 –1934) work. Since the war caused a sugar shortage, Maurice would have also been the candy man aka Willy Wanka and his top hat 🎩 and cain in his photos match the part).
In 1886, The French Rothschild bank, de Rothschild Frères, gains the Russian oil fields and establishes the Caspian and Black Sea Petroleum Company, which eventually becomes second largest global oil producer.
The Rothschilds become the biggest shareholder of the De Beers company in 1887, which included mining valuable stones in India and Africa. They achieved this by financing the South Africa’s Kimberley diamond mines.
Maurice de Rothschild’s future wife, Noémie Halphen, is born in 1888.
Around 1891, the Rothschilds they purchased the Reuters news agency, to gain control of the media.
In 1895, Edmond James de Rothschild visits Palestine and begins helping fund the first Jewish colonies located there.
In 1897, The Rothschilds organize their first meeting with the Zionist Congress in Munich. However, this meeting was re-arranged to take place in Basle, Switzerland on Aug. 29th, due to Jewish resistance. This meeting is supervised by Theodor Herzl, who would declare in his diaries, “It is essential that the sufferings of Jews….become worse….this will assist in realization of our plans….I have an excellent idea….I shall induce anti-Semites to liquidate Jewish wealth….The anti-Semites will assist us thereby in that they will strengthen the persecution and oppression of Jews. The anti-Semites shall be our best friends.”
Herzl was elected to be the President of the Zionist Organization. The Zionist society adopted the Red Rothschild Hexagram Sign that Amschel Moses Rothschild placed on his house on Judengasse (Jewstreet), on their Zionist flag. This hexagram sign would end up on the flag of Israel 🇮🇱 51 years later.
The Rothschilds help fund Edward Henry Harriman. This allowed him to become the director of the Union Pacific Railroad which would eventually also gain control of the Southern Pacific Railroad.
In 1901 the Jewish colonies established by Edmond James de Rothschild in Palestine. They send him a delegation which states, “If you wish to save the Yishuv (The Jewish colonies) first take your hands from it, and…for once permit the colonists to have the possibility of correcting for themselves what needs correcting.”
Edmond James de Rothschild does not react very well to these news and states, “I created the Yishuv, I alone. Therefore no men, neither colonists nor organisations have the right to interfere in my plans.”
The M. A. von Rothschild und Söhne banking house in Frankfurt, Deutschland 🇩🇪, closes because there was no male Rothschild heir to take over the bank.
The Jewish Encyclopaedia (Vol. 2, p.497) states, “It is a somewhat curious sequel to the attempt to set up a Catholic competitor to the Rothschilds that at the present time the latter are the guardians of the papal treasure.”
In 1906, the Rothschilds insisted that the land was experiencing increased instability, while the Rockefellers were simultaneously becoming a rising competition. This was a lie, because in reality, the Rockefellers were the offspring of the Rothschilds through a female lineage. They owned Standard Oil, which is why they sold their Caspian Black Sea and Caspian Petroleum to Shell and Royal Dutch.
John F. Hylan, then mayor of New York, states in 1911, “The real menace of our republic is the invisible government which, like a giant octopus, sprawls its slimy length over our city, state and nation. At the head is a small group of banking houses, generally referred to as international bankers.”
George R. Conroy talks about the Rothschild banker Jacob Schiff in the December 1912 issue of, “Truth,” magazine, and states, “Mr Schiff is head of the great private banking house of Kuhn, Loeb, and co, which represents the Rothschilds interests on this side of the Atlantic. He has been described as financial strategist and has been for years the financial minister of the great impersonal power known as Standard Oil. He was hand in glove with the Harrimans, the Goulds, and the Rockefellers in all their railroad enterprises and has become the dominant power in the railroad and financial power of America.”
The Anti Defamation League (ADL) is established in the United States by the Rothschilds in 1913, which labeled anyone who challenged the Global Elite as “anti-Semitic.” This is also the year that they founded their last central bank which still exists today, the Federal Reserve.
After the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 was passed/singed into law on December 23, by the 28th President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, which created the Federal Reserve Banking System, Congressman Charles Lindbergh, stated, “The Act establishes the most gigantic trust on earth. When the President signs this Bill, the invisible government of the monetary power will be legalized…….The greatest crime of the ages is perpetrated by this banking and currency bill.”
The Federal Reserve System is a private Organization also known as a charity and is Illegal!!! They also do not publish their accounts*
By the year 1914 the Rothschilds have gained control of multiple European media agencies, which included, Havas (est. 1835) in France, Wolff (est. 1849) in Germany, and Reuters (est. 1851) in England. Wolff News company was used to systematically shape German individuals into believing war the way to go. Since the Rothschilds owned the media now, they were seldomly reported on.
Since, Tsar Alexander II choose to side with President Lincoln in the Cvil War in 1864, he and his whole family in Russia were executed in 1917 by an order of the Rothschilds. They kill the entire family to show the world what happens when you try to cross them.
In 1919, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, the boss, hosted the Versailles peace convention, which meets after the end of World War I to determine what must be repaid by the Germans to the victors. In this conference, it is also officially declared that Israel would be considered a Jewish homeland. Control of Palestine was handed to Britain, which the Rothschilds ruled.
The Times of London report on March 29th on the Bolsheviks in Russia stating, “One of the curious features of the Bolshevist movement is the high percentage of non Russian elements among its leaders. Of the twenty or thirty commissaries, or leaders, who provide the central machinery of the Bolshevist movement, not less than 75% were Jews.”
The Rothschilds were not happy with the Russians because they did not want them to establish their own central bank within their community. So they hired Jewish agents to spy on Russia and plant seeds in the heads of the Russian community about a revolution that would assist the common man by promoting rebellion through riots. The Rothschilds strategically set this up to conquer Russia, so they could establish their own bank there.
The International Edition of the Jewish Post (January 1991)verifies that Vladimir Lenin was Jewish and was caught on record declaring, “The establishment of a central bank is 90% of communizing a nation.”
These Jewish Bolsheviks, funded by the Rothschild would end up would end up slaughtering 60 million Non-Jews and Christians in a Soviet controlled region.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, an author, confirms in his writings, “Gulag Archipelago, Vol 2,” that the Zionist Jews planned and executed the Soviet concentration camp structure. Where millions of Non-Jews and Christians died. On page 79 of his book he mentions the names of the leaders who were behind these camps. This included the Zionist Jews, Yakov Rappoport, Aron Solts, Naftaly Frenkel, Lazar Kogan, Genrikh Yagoda, and Matvei Berman.
The role of adjusting the daily global gold prices is permanently handed over to M. Rothschild & Sons’. Every day around 1100 hours this change took place in the City of London offices, in the same room, until 2004.
N. M. Rothschild & Sons banking house invests in the Underground Electric Railways Company of London Ltd in 1926 giving them total control of the London railway transport system.
Maurice de Rothschild son, Edmond de Rothschild is also born in 1926.
By 1933, the Rothschilds controlled the supply machines of IBM, which produced punch cards (used to input data into the first computers), which allowed the Nazis to organize and identify the Jewish individuals and kept track of their confiscated property and eventual extermination.
The Swiss bank secrecy laws are altered in 1934, making it a violation for any bank employee to breach the bank secrecy. This was arranged by the Rothschilds to prepare for World War II, where again, they would back both sides.
The Austrian bank in Vienna, S. M. von Rothschild und Söhne, closed in 1938 after the Nazi settlement of Austria.
The biggest producer of steel Germany and preeminent manufacturer of chemicals for the world was a company called, I.G. Farben, who in 1939, suddenly ramped up its production in order to equip Germany for World War II. The Rothschilds controlled I.G. Farben, who also produced the Zyklon B gas used to exterminate the Jewish population. The Rothschilds also used the Jews and other people in the concentration camps for slave labor.
World War II begins in 1939.
The book, “Inside The Gestapo,” written by Hansjurgen Koehler in 1940, mentions Adolf Hitler’s grandmother, Maria Anna Schicklgruber, and states, “A little servant girl…….came to Vienna and became a domestic servant…….at the Rothschild mansion…….and Hitler’s unknown grandfather must be probably looked for in this magnificent house.”
In Walter Langer book, “The Mind Of Hitler,” he supports this statement by writing, “Adolf’s father, Alois Hitler, was the illegitimate son of Maria Anna Schicklgruber…….Maria Anna Schicklgruber was living in Vienna at the time she conceived. At that time she was employed as a servant in the home of Baron Rothschild. As soon as the family discovered her pregnancy she was sent back home…….where Alois was born.”
Prescott Bush was the father of George Herbert Walker Bush and the grandfather of George W. Bush, both future presidents. He helped finance Hitler from America. Due to his funding, his organization was seized in the, “Trading With The Enemy Act of 1942.”
World War II ends in 1945. It is also noted that the I.G. Farben companies only sustained 15% damage, concluding that they were not a target in the bombing of Germany. Any information connecting Western aid to Hitler is censored through the Nazi War Crimes investigation held at the end of World War II by the tribunals.
In Spring of 1948, the 33rd President of the United States Harry S. Truman (1945 – 1953) is bribed with $2,000,000 by the Rothschilds to acknowledge Israel (Rothschild owned) as a Jewish sovereign state in Palestine. The United States is the first nation to recognize it and the new flag is soon revealed. The new Israel flag depicted a blue hexagram on it, which was exactly like the red Rothschild hexagram, found on Amschel Moses Rothschild’s doorstep.
The Jewish knew the hexagram represented the “Moloch,” which was the biblical name of a Canaanite god relating to child sacrifice, by means of fire or war. The stone owl located at the Bohemian Grove worshipped by the elite is also named Moloch and Astaroth (Lord Treasurer of Hell). The hexagram also symbolized Saturn, which has been identified as the mystical name for “Satan.” This would mean that anyone murdered in the name of Israel was in reality an offering to Satan.
In 1953, the British Newfoundland Corporation Ltd was founded by N. M. Rothschild & Sons of London. They build a power plant to harness the electricity of the Hamilton (renamed Churchill) Falls (waterfall) on 60,000 square miles of terrain in Newfoundland, Canada.

A book called, “The Rothschilds”, written by Frederic Morton writes, “Though they control scores of industrial, commercial, mining and tourist corporations, not one bears the name Rothschild. Being private partnerships, the family houses never need to, and never do, publish a single public balance sheet, or any other report of their financial condition.”
This statement showcases the true mission of the Rothschilds. It was their objective to eradicate all competition and establish their own global monopoly.
On July 4th 1962, the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, held a speech at Independence Hall, in which he mocked the Declaration of Independence and states that the Constitution, “stressed not Independence but Interdependence.”
On June 4th 1963, the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, issues the Executive Order 11110, which returned the power to distribute currency back to the U.S. government, without having to go through the Federal Reserve possessed by the Rothschilds.
On November 22nd 1963, Kennedy was shot by the Rothschilds. Kennedy’s motive was to distribute and print American currency for the American people. Abraham Lincoln was assassinated for the same reason in 1865 by the Rothschilds.
The 37th President of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson, declares the Executive Order 11110 as void, the same day that Kennedy was killed.
La Compagnie Financière Edmond de Rothschild (LCF), in Switzerland, an investment bank with many associates is established by Edmond de Rothschild. Today, this bank is known as the Swiss Bank. Edmond marries Nadine and have a son together named, Benjamin de Rothschild.
In 1973, Gary Allen, wrote a book called, None Dare Call It Conspiracy, which states, “One major reason for the historical blackout on the role of the international bankers in political history is the Rothschilds were Jewish… ….The Jewish members of the conspiracy have used an organisation called The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) as an instrument to try and convince everyone that any mention of the Rothschilds and their allies is an attack on all Jews. In this way they have stifled almost all honest scholarship on international bankers and made the subject taboo within universities. Any individual or book exploring this subject is immediately attacked by hundreds of ADL communities all over the country. The ADL has never let the truth or logic interfere with its highly professional smear jobs… ….Actually, nobody has a right to be more angry at the Rothschild clique than their fellow Jews… ….The Rothschild empire helped finance Adolf Hitler.”
IBM was controlled by the Rothschilds through their employee, George J. Laurer. IBM creates the UPC (Universal Product Code) barcode, which is placed upon every product traded worldwide. IBM’s UPC barcode bears the mark of the beast, 666. Everything bought or sold is therefore the mark of the beast.
The Book of Revelation 13:17 says, “No man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”
The Churchill Falls power plant in Newfoundland, Canada, is finished. N. M. Rothschild & Sons of London, adds an asset management company, called the Rothschild Private Management Limited, which traded globally. Today this company is know as Rothschild & Co.
In 1980, global privatization starts due to the Rothschilds plan to eventually seize power of all publicly held assets.
In 1981, a new bank called, Compagnie Européenne de Banque is established in France. The successor to this bank is Rothschild & Cie Banque (RCB), which eventually becomes a leading French investment company.
Eustace Mullins writes in 1985, “Who Owns The TV Networks,“ where he discloses that the Rothschilds control of the three dominant U.S. Networks at the time: NBC; CBS; and ABC.
Edmond de Rothschild sets up the World Conservation Bank in 1987, which transferred debts from third world countries into his bank. This allowed the Rothschilds to gain land as a return from these countries. The Rothschilds systematically designed this system to gain control of the third world countries, which were about 30% of the land on Earth.
The French and British Rothschilds declare in 1989, the launch of a new branch called, Rothschild GmbH, located in Frankfurt, Germany.
Former Federal Reserve Board Chairman, Paul A. Volker becomes the new Chairman of the banking firm, J. Rothschild, Wolfensohn and Co. in Europe in March 1992.
In 1995, Dr Kitty Little, a past atomic energy scientist, stated that the Rothschilds now possessed 80% of the uranium supplies globally, creating their nuclear power monopoly.
The European Central Bank is established in 1998 and is located in Frankfurt, Germany.
George W. Bush, becomes the 43rd President of the United States in the year 2000. Bush and his family declare they are the ancestors of the House of Plantagenet, whose linage stems from the Royal House of Judah.
The September 11th attack of the Twin Towers was arranged by the United States, Britain, and Israel, through an order received from the Rothschilds. It was their goal to gain security and control over the world, while simultaneously eliminating the liberty of people globally. The Rothschild’s terrorist attack allowed them to gain power over nations who refused to build a central Rothschild bank. One of these 7 nations was Afghanistan, (at the time a nation without R. Bank, but 9/11 changed this.)
They also will use the attacks to gain control of the few nations in the world who don’t allow Rothschild central banks and so less than one month after these attacks, US forces attack Afghanistan, one of only 7 nations in the world who don’t have a Rothschild controlled central bank.
A week before the twin tower attack, the Zim Shipping Company, located in the World Trade Centers, break their lease and leave behind their work station. No explanation has been given, but it is know that the Zim Shipping Company is half owned by the State of Israel, which is owned by The Rothschilds.
In the year 2003, Iraq (Ancient Babylon), is one of the last six nations left that who don’t have a central bank owned by the Rothschilds. The war in Iraq was mostly about robbing their water sources for Israel. Israel has always struggled for water. Water is rare in Israel, so to them water is far more valuable than the oil reserves, which happen to be the second largest oil reserves on the globe.
In 2006, the Edmond De Rothschild Banque a secondary branch of the Edmond De Rothschild bank in France, is the first foreign bank to acquire authorization of the China to enter China’s economic market.

2020.11.25 21:48 MajorSphinct Does John predict Israel's exile and Zionism in Revelation?

I noticed something odd in Revelation years ago, and at the time I showed as many 'Christians' as I could, but all of them said it meant something else. I've been chewing on it for a long time, and I thought I would toss it out there again. What do non standard Christian's think?
Does Revelation 12 predict exactly how the Hebrews who had fled into the wilderness, where they had a place prepared by God for exactly for 1260 years? It says 'days', but using day=year view it lines up as NOT expected from me at the time.
When I read it [see below] with that in mind, I thought what if Israel is the 'woman'? I then thought well if that's true, then if I research on when sacrifices ceased on the temple mount until the founding of Zionism, the dates should line up.
I found sources indicating that sacrifices continued on the temple mount until 630 AD.
Sacking of Israel 630 AD + 1260 = 1890 founding of Zionism
One could argue that John's prophecy nailed it here.
Revelation of John
1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: 2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. 3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. 5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and [to] his throne. 6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days.
Be blessed!

2020.11.25 09:35 uwuGod This Stupid Double-Standard With Clothing

Dunno if anyone saw the "drama" (eugh) regarding Harry Styles, but he was on the cover of a Vogue magazine seen wearing a dress. Which subsequently made people outraged. Now, obviously most celebrity drama is already boring enough to not bother giving a shit about, but really?
This whole nonsense with men wearing "feminine' clothes is stupid, for a few main reasons:
  1. What's considered "feminine" at all is a matter of perspective. Throughout history, and even in the modern day throughout different cultures, what's considered normal for men and women to wear ranges wildly. Hell, at one point in America, it was considered manly to dress in pink, wear high-heeled boots, and grow your hair out. There is no objective measure of "manliness", it's an ethereal concept that can be perceived differently by anyone. Trying to quantify it is completely stupid.
  2. How does it make a man "weaker" in any sense? I see people say that a lot. That men are "weaker" for wearing women's clothing... but they never specify how. Are they physically weaker? Mentally? How does putting on a dress or skirt do that? Is it magic? The occult? Do they not understand it's just a piece of cloth? What, does it like... absorb the testosterone right out of their bodies or something?I think what people tend to mean by "weaker" is that they believe they're mentally weak to begin with, and were somehow coerced into wearing a dress by others (probably some perceived "LGBTQ agenda" horseshit). The reality is men can actually choose for themselves, and these people are just projecting their insecurities about how they could never wear one themselves.
  3. Women wear "masculine" clothes all the damn time, and we consider it normal - even empowering in a lot of cases. So why is there a double-standard? I mean, I know some men find tomboys weird and would rather date a woman in a skirt, but that's just preference. You hardly see men publicly voicing how gross women who wear "men's clothes" are. Whatever the hell that even means. Again, it's literally just fabric.
  4. What I find especially baffling is when it's women who insinuate that men in dresses are weak. Because this problem stems from sexism, that much should be obvious. Femininity and anything relating to women is still considered "weaker" by many people, and that's why it's somehow wrong for men to wear it.Why would a woman share that belief, unless they're complacent with sexism towards themselves? If they believed men and women were equal, wouldn't they be okay with men wearing women's clothes? Then again, typically when I see women who are against it, they tend to be the stereotypical Christian trophy wife, so maybe they just are complacent with sexism. Seems weird to me, but hey.
And, none of this really even matters in the end, does it? Because of the whole "double-standard" thing. It shouldn't even be a problem in the first place. I don't see how a man walking around in a skirt is going to lead to the collapse of society or "male culture" as many a Brad or Kyle have worded it.
Some women even go as far to say, "We're running out of manly men", as if the microscopic percentage of men wearing dresses in America significantly shrinks their dating pool by any margin. Even if those men didn't wear dresses, they probably wouldn't have the same conservative mindset and set of beliefs to ever "click" with these women anyways. Really, their options remain untouched.
And for God's sake, nobody is "forcing this on kids", this is the same garbage Boomer fear-mongering we've seen every generation. In the 1700's it was, "Women are showing their ankles in public! What will our little girls think if they see this? Oh the horror!" It may influence society as a whole, but it's still the individual's choice to follow the movement or not. Nobody is forcing little boys to wear skirts. At worse, it's merely presenting an option to adults who can already choose for themselves.
The most hilarious quips are when people say stuff like, "Well I don't mind men in dresses but you know they're going to be seen as weak or gay, right? Can't help it." Yes, Denice, that's the problem. The problem is that they're seen that way at all, and for no good reason.
I'm just imagining one of these people going back to like 750 BC in Rome and telling the muscle-bound gladiators who fought (to the death, mind you) in thigh-high boots and mini-skirts that they're somehow "not very manly" for the way they dress. What an absolute joke.
I just feel like you have to be a special kind of insecure to comment on what someone else is wearing. Unless they're dressed like a Halloween costume or running around naked, what the Hell does it matter what someone wears? Dresses look nice. There's certainly a lot of people (especially women) defending Harry over his outfit, so clearly there's also a "market" for it as well. I get finding it weird or it just not being "your thing", but going out of your way to be a judgmental prick about it comes off as incredibly pretentious, I think. And says a lot about what you value in a person most.

2020.11.25 05:22 elliottglass How Do I Convince My Religious Mom to Accept Her LGBT+ Kids?

CW: homophobia, Christianity, religious homophobia Pronouns: she/her Long post warning, TLDR at the end.
Need advice: I (22) came out as bisexual to my mom when I was 16 and it didn’t go great. We basically didn’t talk about it again. Both my parents (who are still together) are devoutly Catholic, although I’ve sometimes felt that my mom had some level of doubt. My dad is a different story, I don’t speak to him much for a few other reasons. As an adult I haven’t brought up basically any sensitive subjects with her- religion, politics, sexuality, etc. and that has made our relationship better and easier. I had honestly given up on seeing her as my mom, rather than an adult who is raising my siblings. I have a relationship with her mostly because I love my siblings more than anything and need to have access to seeing them. I live several states away and can’t see them at all due to the pandemic beyond texting/calling. My brother, who is 16, is gay, and out to everyone including family. My parents gave him the standard “we love you no matter what” response but have at times been overtly homophobic towards him (not allowing him on dates with boys, not letting him paint his nails, even expressing disgust at him wearing pink??), but mostly my dad. My brother is not taking it anymore, to the point where he won’t eat meals with them and has stopped speaking to them entirely. For context, two of my other siblings live with them and have helped to make sure he’s still eating and doing ok. Everyone but my parents in our immediate family is either LGBT+ or very strongly allied. My mom called me yesterday and asked what she should do. Again, we’ve never talked about my sexuality since I came out and I was shocked. I told her he needs to know she’ll be there for the big moments, including when he gets married or has kids, and love the man he ends up with as a son-in-law. She said she could consider as much but can’t support gay marriage because it’s against her faith. They’re both hurting a lot about this but I care most about my brother’s safety. I feel complicit in maintaining a relationship with my bigoted parents, and cowardly that I haven’t spoken up about it. I don’t know if I can change her mind but I want to try, for my brother’s sake. I know she loves him as her son but I know he won’t yield unless she is completely accepting of his identities, and gay marriage specifically. Side note, he’s such a strong, smart kid. I’m very proud of him for this and a lot of other stuff.
TLDR: how have you or someone you know talked to a religious (especially Catholic) family member about supporting their LGBT+ loved ones? Did it work?
Edit: I don’t know if I made it clear what I’m looking for- I need arguments specific to Christianity that support gay marriage. I know plenty of Christians do, so why? What can I say specifically?

2020.11.24 20:57 Mighty_Killah How did Ethiopia come to civil war? An overview of modern Ethiopian History and how Ethiopian history has shaped events leading to the Tigray Crisis.

How did Ethiopia come to civil war? An overview of modern Ethiopian History and how Ethiopian history has shaped events leading to the Tigray Crisis.
Hello, /neoliberal. I wanted to help summarize the historical events leading to the current civil war happening in Ethiopia between the federal government led by Abiy Ahmed and the regional government of Tigray, led by Debretsion Gebremichael. This situation is incredibly complex, murky, and needs a lot historical context before anything starts making sense. I would like to disclose that, like everyone else in the world, I'm biased, have my own assumptions and opinions, and that many Ethiopians might disagree with my summarizing of history. I've also got family on both sides of this war, lost contact with family in Tigray, and have certainly lost at least one relative already to this war. I'm not objective by any means. Please keep reading and learning, and most of all keep skeptical when reading news about the country and histories that flatten narratives. Here's to the summary:
Summary of Modern Ethiopian History (1850-1974)
Travel back to 1850s Ethiopia. Atse (Emperor) Tewodros II, from the Qwara Region located in modern day northwestern Amhara Region, ends the Zemane Mesafint. The Zemane Mesafint was a time of constant civil wars, where different regions of Ethiopia rebelled to either gain independence from the Ethiopian Empire, or fight to rule over a unified Ethiopia where their region is dominant. Ethiopia is (roughly) the territory shown below:
Rough approximation of the kingdoms comprising the Empire of Ethiopia in 1850's under Atse Tewodros II.
Lots of details cut out here for efficiency, but seeing how the African continent was being colonized by European forces, and wishing to avoid the same fate while continuing to acquire territory to the north and south, Tewodros consolidates his empire and asks to trade with different European powers for modern weaponry. Different European nations deny trading opportunities for different reasons, all essentially having their own imperial objectives in the region and not wanting too strong an independent power in the region. This leads to growing tensions, which erupt with the British, and the British invade Ethiopia to depose Tewodros. After a few uncertain years of rule, Atse Yohannes IV, king of Tigray, rises to the throne and eliminates his rivals claimants.
Wanting to unify Ethiopia, he decides that he will differ from previous Ethiopian emperors in two ways. 1. Ethiopian Emperors would usually appoint governors from their own areas to govern over other regions. This created conflict. Yohannes instead appoints governors from the regions conquered, even if they fought hard against him, and would try a looser grip federally to focus on foreign policy. This proved pretty popular. 2. He declares Christianity the state religion, promising to execute those refusing to convert from their indigenous religions, Judaism, or Islam. This proved much, much less popular. With these policies set out, he expands to the North, and encourages the southern kingdoms to expand even further southward. After a few particularly irksome foreign policy dealings with Italy, the Ottoman Empire, and Great Britain, he becomes frustrated and reckless, leading the frontlines in war against Mahdist Sudan and dying in the process. Many of the Tigrayan elite feel betrayed, suspecting one of Yohannes' kings, Menelik II of double-crossing him.
Map of Ethiopia under Yohannes IV with battle dates.
Menelik II of Shewa was troublesome throughout Yohannes' rule, constantly testing Yohannes IV's patience. Menelik II of Shewa was intent on rising to the top no matter what, and many felt that he was involved in Yohannes' death somehow. Despite this speculation, he defeated his rival claimants and was in charge of this growing, multi-ethnic empire. Growing tensions in north of Ethiopia with the Italians, who had worked with Great Britain on a back-room deal to deceive Ethiopia and annex the coastal territories of Massawa and Asseb that Ethiopians traditionally used to export goods, lead to negotiation and the Treaty of Wuchale. This treaty was bad for Tigray, giving Tigrayan territories to the Italians to ensure that the rest of Ethiopia would have it's independence recognized by European powers. Italy had included a clause in only the Italian translation of the treaty that made Ethiopia a protectorate of Italy. This was to create a cause for war with Ethiopia, where Italy believed they would have the upperhand and conquer the rest quickly after. Things did not go Italy's way, and Menelik rebuffed Italian forces pretty handily. Menelik did not fight to receive back Tigrayan territory in Eritrea, and generally Tigrayans felt marginalized in his dealings. Menelik II went on to centralize rule of Ethiopia, stripping some levels autonomy from all regions, and greatly expanding the empire southwards. Bloody battles and peaceful negotiations incorporated the rest of Ethiopia to the south. Menelik II is deeply controversial for much of his expansion and dealings with southern Ethiopia.

Map of the Horn of Africa near the end of Menelik II's rule in 1914.
Skipping to 1945, the next major emperor is the famous Haile Selassie. In the post-war period, he wanted to centralize Ethiopia further. Note the consistent theme in these accounts: Every federal government wants to centralize power in the federal branch. His reign is also hotly contested in Ethiopia. He pursues a policy of centralization, of unification, and also of creating an ethnic-nationalism for Ethiopia that had not been pursued before. As a modernizer, Haile Selassie wants to create national standards and regulations (moving away from traditional and customary laws), to create a parliament and implement some weakened form of constiutional monarchy, to create infrastructure to connect the country to each other, and to create an Ethiopian ethnic-identity. He opens schools, government offices, and other such things around the country, but instructs them to only use the Amharic language for all governmental and legal affairs. During this time, many around the country went to school for the first time, and proved to be excellent students. However, the forced language of Amharic was off-putting to many who felt tied, historically, culturally, and religiously to languages they used in their regions. In addition, Amharic second-language speakers felt discriminated against for loans, business, jobs, and so on. For various complicated reasons, Haile Selassie is deposed by the Derg, a communist junta with support from the Soviet Union.

Primary sources for this section are from Bahru Zewde's A History of Modern Ethiopia and Donald Levine's Greater Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian Revolution, and secession of Eritrea from Ethiopia, and the EPRDF (1974-2018)
Although extremely ideologically different from the monarchy, the Derg also supported the creation of Ethiopian national identity. At first, they promoted the use of Amharic as the national language, but after time they try to compromise with rebels and promise a kind of ethnic-federalism in the country. Derg is fought hard by the EPLF (Eritrean People's Liberation Front), which wants self-determination for Eritrean peoples who they felt were colonized by the Ethiopian Empire. TPLF, the infamous Tigrayan People's Liberation Front, began an armed uprising against the Derg for self-determination rights. Tigray at this point has felt incredibly marginalized, and has been air-bombed and massacred by the Derg. TPLF and EPLF gain control of the northern territories of Ethiopia, and drive out rival movements and uprisings in the North. A coalition of different ethnic groups seeking self-determination rights throw out the Derg in 1991 after the collapse of Soviet support. This coalition, the EPRDF (Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front), abandons their commitment to communism due to the collapse of the USSR, and begins to write the constitution. While in theory all equals, this coalition is pretty strongly lead by the TPLF. EPRDF writes the current governing constitution of Ethiopia. Due to their roots as an organization fighting for self-determination, they write a constitution that divides up the country into administrative regions of various sizes and orders, and grants the right to rule over these regions to ethnic groups that are determined to be indigenous to the zones. In the constitution, any region also has the unconditional right to secede from Ethiopia pending processes. Eritrea takes this option, seceding and becoming an independent nation after a tightly scrutinized referendum. This constitution solves many issues that lead to revolution in Ethiopia, but creates lots of other issues.
Map of Ethiopia in 2000, with administrative regions shown.
Although they still faced issues, marginalized ethnic groups were able to self-administrate, teach and learn in their own languages, and use customary laws to govern their regions. Languages made revivals, people felt they could celebrate their cultures, and so much more. This was not the case everywhere, though. Ethnic federalism, like any drawing of borders and lines, created hotly contested lands. For one example, there is an area in southern Tigray is known as Raya which is deeply and historically ethnically mixed between Amhara, Oromo, and Tigrayan peoples. They are now administered as a part of Tigray Region, despite their mixed history, and those with less Tigrayan heritage feel like second class citizens. In Oromia, there are 10-15 million Amhara who also live without self-determination rights because they are not in the Amhara Region. In the SNNPR, which is a hodge podge region of 40+ ethnic groups combined into one region, there was deep infighting and power struggles between the Sidama, Wolayta, and more. This constitution worked great for more homogenous regions, like Tigray, Afar, and Somali, but failed to create lasting peace due to the contestations over land rights between ethnic groups in diverse, mixed, and border territories.
This is, in addition to the systemic corruption by the EPRDF, lead to massive protests from the Oromo, who have long felt marginalized in general by Ethiopia. In 2016/2017, massive Amhara protests joined, and a cascade of ethnic groups began to protest the EPRDF for alleged corruption, theft, embezzlement, human rights abuses, and more. EPRDF promised more transparency, open election, less corruption, and to appoint a prime minister to facilitate the transition to multi-party democracy. His name? Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali.
Abiy Ahmed, PM of Ethiopia appointed by the EPRDF. Originally from the Oromo People's Democratic Organization part of the coalition government.
Ethiopia in the Age of Prosperity Party (2018 - Present)
Abiy was, as many here are familiar with, the compromise candidate that everyone was actually excited for. People all over the country thought he would come in and fix all of Ethiopia's problems. From ending Ethiopia's forever-war with Eritrea, to promising liberalization of the economy and democratization of the country following deeply authoritarian rule of EPRDF, he seemed like a magic bullet. He began by allowing opposition groups back into the country if they agreed to disarmament, freeing political prisoners, and publicly investigating and uncovering levels of corruption and authoritarianism in the previous government that shocked even critics of the EPRDF. He consolidated his support among the diaspora with a huge world tour where he promoted his ideology which he called "Medemer."
In 2019, one of the opposition leaders invited back to the country was Jawar Mohammed. While ideologically different, they were both from the Oromo ethnic group and wanted to make Ethiopia better for Oromos than it had been. Abiy was critical of ethnic politics at times, saying to various ethnic-nationalists that it was better to unite under the common banner of Ethiopia. He started to slowly make enemies within the camp that supported ethnic-federalism. Multinational federalists believe that Ethiopia will only be at peace if it keeps the constitution as it is, with regions divided amongst ethnic groups to facilitate ethnic self-rule. He began to replace his advisers that were proponent of multinational federalism, and kept getting challenged by Tigray which was still ruled by TPLF. In addition, Tigrayans felt that Abiy was unfairly targetting Tigrayans with criminal prosecution of corruption. EPRDF was a multi-ethnic coalition, after all, and any corruption mostly likely involved individuals of many ethnic groups. At the end of 2019, Jawar Mohammed felt that he was being targetted by the government as well, spied on and potentially about to be arrested. He sent out a WhatsApp message to his supporters to protect him one day, and many people came out to the streets to try to protect him. Unfortunately, these riots became deadly, killing 70 people.
In 2020, Abiy began to centralize his power ahead of the elections as well, combining the EPRDF coalitional parties into one -- the Prosperity Party (PP). Only one party decided not to join, the TPLF, which called the move unconstitutional and a regressive step back into the centralization days of Haile Selassie or the Derg. Proponents of multinational federalism also felt upset with Abiy over his general continued militarization of the Oromo Region and for his perceived preference for a de-ethnicized politics. In addition, Abiy delayed the 2020 elections almost immediately upon the announcement of COVID-19. Many of all political preferences saw this as an excuse, and with the centralization of power under the PP, politics in the country became increasingly toxic and unproductive. TPLF openly disputed this move, saying it would continue to hold regional elections despite the official postponement. Concurrently, ethnic massacres became much, much too commonplace. Some factions of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), an armed rebel group that wants self-determination for the Oromo peoples, armed up and began trying to seize territories further from Addis in Western Oromia.
While unfortunately not new to Ethiopia, the scale, organization, and sheer number of victims exploded. All over the country, issues over land rights, multinational federalism, and extreme ethnic-nationalism boiled over. This became particularly pronounced after the assassination of popular Oromo protest singer Haachaalu Hundessa. Many Oromos felt deeply connected to him, as he showcased the plight of Oromo farmers outside of Addis Ababa who's lands were being annexed to expand the capital. This caused a wave of fake news and hate speech on social media, in particular Facebook and WhatsApp who had no Ethiopian moderators who were able to understand the hate speech, and massacres again exploded as a result of the increased hatred and animosity. At the end of October, thousands had been killed by these ethnic cleansings. In addition, it was clear that there was regional governmental involvement in these ethnic cleansings. Despite this, the federal government was clearly fighting the OLF with heavy sustained civilian casualties and human rights abuses. Oromos felt over-policed and criminalized, and Amharas felt under threat of genocide at any given moment. Abiy claims that TPLF-loyalists, in coordination with regional governments and OLF are committing these massacres, arming groups and providing intelligence. TPLF claims that Abiy is either allowing these to happen to justify an increase in security presence and martial law, or commiting them himself to ethnically cleanse Oromo Region and other regions from minorities.
After holding their regional elections, TPLF (surprise, surprise) wins by a landslide. There are reports of opposition parties being impeded from entering, such as the Tigrayan opposition party ARENA. This allowed TPLF to only run against secessionist political parties and present itself as the only "moderate" option for Tigray. Many dispute this, though, claiming that these other opposition parties just didn't do their paperwork correctly. This election constitutes the ramp-up of escalatory language, threats, and actions that lead to the 2020 Tigray Crisis. I don't want to get into the Tigray Crisis itself, as reports are unverified by independent media and both sides have presented clear incentives and means of producing propaganda.
In summary, Ethiopia is an incredibly complicated multinational democracy that grew from the corpse of ancient empires to become what it is today. It's formation process created centuries-old evolving ethnic relations/tensions and a political struggle over centralization vs. regional autonomy. Reducing the narrative to "those darn Africans with their petty ethnic hatred" is doing injustice to real struggles some of the most marginalzed people in the world have faced. This war should be considered a warning to multi-ethnic democracies everywhere about the importance of well-handled transitions of power, national reconciliations following tumult, the power that identity and ethnicity play in politics, and social media as a polarizing force that can stoke the flames of already-existing divisions.

2020.11.24 02:47 Prokinsey I read the Duggar sex manual so you don't have to! - "Intended for Pleasure" by Dr. Ed Wheat, Chapters 1-5

Whenever the Duggars are asked about sex they bring up Dr. Ed Wheat, Boobs sex doctopediatrician, and they always reference his book “Intended for Pleasure”. It would appear that this is THE Duggar sex book. The first edition of “Intended for Pleasure” was published in 1977. Jim Bob and Michelle were married in 1984, after the second edition was published. Anna and Josh were married in 2008, two years before the fourth edition was published. I’ll be reading the fourth edition. Skip to chapter 4 for the steamy stuff.
In the foreword, Dr. Dennis Rainey strokes the late Wheats ego, calls him a “prophet”, and complains about the sexual revolution. Rainey instructs parents to give this book to their children when they get engaged and have them read the first 100 pages + chapter 14 on STDs now and save the rest for “later”. The PDF version of the book doesn't have the pages formatted or numbered like the physical copy so I can't tell you where you're supposed to stop reading if you aren't married yet.
In the Preface to the Fourth Edition, Dow Pursley strokes Wheats ego and thanks a few people.
Chapter 1 - Intended For Pleasure
  1. This chapter opens with Wheat explaining that as a doctor he can only fix so much and that’s why he provides GODLY CHRISTIAN COUNSEL to his patients. Apparently, everyone and their dog were piling into Wheats office to ask him about their sex problems. The solution was GOD. God says sex and marriage are good and you should do three things: 1) “When we marry we should stop being dependant on our parents and in-laws. We are to become completely dependant on our mates to satisfy ALL of our needs. (Duggar fail #1) 2) The man is responsible for holding the marriage together by “cleaving” to his wife. (Sex Pest fail #1) CLEAVING in this sense means to weld together inseparably, so that each becomes a part of the other. Therefore, the man is to be totally committed to his one wife. 3) We are commanded to be joined together in sexual union, to be ONE FLESH.”
  2. Wheat THOROUGHLY rebuffs the idea that humans are animals or anything like animals. We’re BETTER than animals.
  3. Wheat is obsessed with scriptural references to sex. He says every book of the bible talks about married sex and it’s the ultimate good.
Chapter 2 - Finding God’s Design
  1. When an Arkansas couple attempts to make an appointment at Wheats office for their state-mandated pre-marriage blood test Wheat tells them they need to read four of his books first, including this one, which means he added that statement in the second or later edition.
  2. At the same time, he says he “asks” the couple to listen to two of his audiobooks before their appointment, and then says that the same information is available in chapter 4 of this book, which makes the information redundant. He must’ve made a pretty penny selling his books to people who just wanted a blood test.
  3. Reading these books and listening to these CDs supposedly ‘dispels many uncertainties and fears’, allows the couple to “begin their marriage with openness and communication”, and teaches them everything they need to know about sex.
  4. During the appointment for the state-mandated blood test Wheat likes to get handsy and quiz people. Has your doctor ever assigned you homework? He says “this procedure assures me that they’ve been told what they need to know and it affords me the time to go over the basic principles of the God-planned marriage with them during the office call.” Why he couldn’t quiz you with your clothes on I do not know.
  5. Wheat also does “premarriage counseling sessions” (clothes on or off? He didn’t say this time.). He says during the first meeting he gives the couple 11 biblical principles to ensure a happy marriage that works on anyone, believer or not, and that non-christian couples are “unable” to meet these standards. Huh?
  6. The first principle he teaches is “Reserve funds to allow for a few weeks of uninterrupted time for a honeymoon” The second: “Borrow no money” The third: “Be independent of in-laws. Leave Father and Mother. (Don’t live in your dad's storage unit.)” The fourth: “Declare a moratorium on media for the first year. (Don’t be a fame whore.)” The fifth: “Never go to bed with an unreconciled relationship” The sixth: “Seek outside spiritual counsel if unable to resolve a major conflict within one week.” The seventh: “Seek counsel if the wife is unable to attain good sexual release” The eighth: “Have bible study together every day” The ninth: “The husband must be 100% committed to loving his wife. The wife must be 100% committed to being submissive.” The tenth: “The husband is to be head of his wife.” The eleventh: “And the wife see that she reverence her husband.”
Chapter 3 - Choosing to Love
  1. Biblical love is a choice, and it’s called “agape love”. “Agape love” is “unconditional and irrevocable.”
  2. Wheat talks for the millionth time about “leaving and cleaving”.
  3. “The fact is, the Bible gives no indication that the feeling the world calls love is to be the foundation for marriage.”
Chapter 4 - Understanding the Basics
  1. This chapter explains in excruciating detail the importance of understanding the anatomy of the genitals. He says that naming the anatomy of your genitals is akin to Adam naming the animals in the garden.
  2. Wheat refers to the female reproductive system as the “female birth-giving organs”.
  3. There are two very unhelpful drawings of the female anatomy. One is a side view of the internal structures that makes the bowel, uterus, and bladder look like one blobby mass. The second is a “front view” of the internal female anatomy that would leave you to believe your large bowel is one short, straight tube that goes up to your lungs.
  4. The written explanation of the female anatomy is actually decent. The recommendations on pap smears are out of date.
  5. There’s an illustration of “obtaining a pap smear” that makes the vagina look a foot long and doesn’t involve a speculum. The caption calls pap smears “painless”, which isn’t the case when they use the broom that goes into the cervical os. Anyone who goes for their first pap having read this explanation and no other is in for a lot of surprises.
  6. Wheat claims that all of the natural lubricant a female person produces will pool in the back of the vagina and has to be “brought out” of the vaginal opening and clitoris. This isn’t true. The vagina does produce some minimal lubricant during sexual excitement, but the majority of it is produced by two glands that excrete on either side of the vaginal opening. If she isn’t wet at the opening diving for lubricant isn’t going to help anything.
  7. Wheat says the husband will need to apply a lubricant if the wife doesn’t adequately self-lubricate, as if a female person applying lubricant just didn’t occur to him.
  8. Wheat explains the procedure for an engaged woman to stretch her hymen so sex on her wedding night won’t be painful. This involves placing one, and eventually two, lubricated fingers completely inside the vagina, starting 2-4 weeks before her wedding and practicing every day. Can you imagine the Duggar girls going on a special-magical trip to the bathroom each day to prepare themselves for intercourse?
  9. The instructions for the husband to stretch the vaginal opening on the wedding night are to insert three (3!!!) fingers into the vagina, slowly over the course of 15-30 minutes, until all three fingers are fully inserted. He advises this may cause tearing(!!!), and that blood can be stopped by holding a tissue to the torn area. He also advises that if you tear you can still have intercourse, and if that causes more tearing to repeat the tissue procedure, and still you can have intercourse again the next day.
  10. In the illustration of “stretching the hymen” the caption says that this “procedure” can also be done by the physician. Can you imagine one of the Duggar girls set up in stirrups getting her vagina stretched by an old sex doctor for 30 minutes while Michelle holds their hand and coaches them to breathe?
  11. Wheat describes a “special position” to be used on the wedding night to bypass any remaining hymen. The wife puts two pillows under her hips, straightens her legs out, the husband approaches from above, and when she can slowly bring her knees up for comfort the husband “should no longer force the penis in, but allow her to thrust her pelvis…”
  12. His last-ditch option if you just can’t get it in is to apply a numbing cream to the vaginal opening so she doesn’t feel it when you force your penis inside her.
  13. Once you’ve got it in Wheat advises “At the time of first intercourse, the husband should not persist in striving to bring his wife to orgasm with his penis in the vagina. … After the penis is inserted, the husband should have his orgasm quickly, withdraw the penis, and stimulate his wife’s clitoral area gently with his fingers to bring her to orgasm.”
  14. While finally describing what the clitoris is Wheat explains a procedure he does when women have pain in their clitoris during sex: he inserts a metal probe under the prepuce “and the adhesions will be released.”
  15. Wheat is pro-period-sex, stating “The is no medical reason for avoiding intercourse during any part of the menstrual period.”
  16. Wheat advises mothers that virgins can use tampons and they will not cause sexual pleasure.
  17. Wheat has a very progressive view of PMS, saying that “PMS is not a character disorder. The symptoms that occur with PMS do not mean that a woman is weak or unstable or that she’s lost touch with God. These symptoms are a result of physical changes, not of emotional or spiritual weakness.”
  18. The male diagrams are just as useless as the female ones.
  19. Wheat describes circumcision as a “hygienic procedure”.
Chapter 5 - One Flesh
  1. Wheat blames the average virginal newlywed's problems on “brainwashing by the romantic novels and movies that suggested that “it all comes naturally””
  2. Wheat says “In considering buying or building a home, you should pay close attention to having your bedroom and bath as isolated as possible from other rooms. Every master bedroom needs a good lock, controlled from the inside, of course. Every child should be trained not to disturb his mother and daddy when their bedroom door is locked.”
  3. Wheat also says “Under no circumstances should you allow a child to sleep in your room with you, except perhaps a new baby for the first six months or less.” We know the Duggars let their small kids sleep in their room when they’re sick or injured, per the TV show when all the small kids had a stomach bug and when one of the little girls had her tonsils out. The recommendation to move a baby out of the room at 6 months contradicts the AAP, who says infants should sleep in their parent's room for the first year of life to reduce the risk of SIDS.
  4. Wheat recommends low-to-no light during “lovemaking”, saying “the mystery of the body enhances the lovemaking experience.”
  5. Wheat says a bath or shower before “sex play” shows your “mate how important the event of physical unity is.” He goes on to say “Bathing and shaving at night will show love, respect, and an anticipation of closeness.”
  6. Wheat encourages foreplay that involves “caressing each other all over” and that it should never be hurried. “Only lust and self-gratification are done in haste.”
  7. “Experimenting” is allowed. “The union of marriage frees the couple to enjoy their bodies in whatever ways are most pleasing, provided that both are being pleased. Without restrictions (other than selfish acts that hurt the partner or evoke distaste), the couple should feel free to experiment and to “know” each other in the most intimate sense possible.”
  8. Touch the boobies only after caressing everywhere else. “After the preliminary period of stroking the entire body, the husband may enjoy fondling his wife’s breasts, and she may enjoy his caresses and kisses on the nipple area. ”
  9. This guy has a weird obsession with the color of the labia.
  10. Wheat spends a lot of time talking about exactly what happens to the female genitalia during foreplay and sex, like how many times this part increases in size, or what color this turns, and exactly how many seconds this takes.
  11. Wheat advises the young couple that certain positions may cause pain to the wife but “After several children have been born, the tissues around the vagina will be stretched, and the wife will then be more comfortable in varied positions.”
  12. Wheat describes a few sex positions for us. The first is “male-above”, which he claims is “by far the most commonly used and gives the husband freedom of movement plus greatest control of strength and rapidity of thrusting. Most couples consider this the most satisfying of all positions.” Next, he describes the “female-above” where the wife is advised to straddle him, lean forward, and insert the penis “at about a 45-degree angle and moves back on the shaft, rather than sitting down on it.” This position is advantageous because it “gives the husband access to her breasts. He also has free use of his hands to better stimulate the clitoris, if necessary, while they are joined in sexual intercourse. ” On to “lateral” or “side-by-side position”. You’re supposed to start like the “female-above” and then roll over onto your sides so you’re facing each other. Finally, we meet the “male-behind position” which Wheat says is “seldom used but may be tried on occasion” This isn’t the “doggy-style” that you and I know and love, no. This is done with the husband and wife both laying on their sides facing the same direction.
  13. Wheat has repeatedly reassured us in this chapter that the size of the penis has nothing to do with sexual satisfaction.
  14. He describes the female orgasm as “as a momentary feeling of suspension, followed by a sensation of warmth starting in the perineal area and pervading the entire body. Rhythmic contractions of the lower third of the vagina follow.” I guess I’ve been doing it wrong all these years. You guys are getting suspension and warm fuzzies?
  15. Men are advised to do 5 things to “increase the physical intensity and pleasure of your orgasm”. “1) wait at least 24 hours after previous orgasm to allow the body to store a larger volume of seminal fluid. 2) Lengthen the foreplay and excitement period so that the penis can remain erect for 20 minutes. 3) Increase your imagination factor by seeing and feeling your wife’s ecstatic response to your knowledgeable and skillful physical stimulation, which brings her to the point of maximum physical pleasure. 4) Voluntarily contract your anal sphincter muscles during your orgasm. 5) Increase the force of thrusting while your orgasm is in progress.”
  16. Wheat advises you might twitch all over when you cum.
  17. You should be giving your wife multiple orgasms: “As soon as the husband finishes ejaculation, he should begin manual stimulation of his wife’s clitoris, so that she can have repeated orgasms. This is the way the woman is designed! She should not have to ask for this, as the whole sex relationship is a pattern of pleasing each other. This means it is not desirable to change pace by having to ask for something for one’s self. It should be the natural desire of the husband to provide every pleasure he knows of, and the wife may be intensely pleased by this continuing stimulation. ”

2020.11.23 23:57 Rudemikeg My testimony and the abbreviated story of my failed marriage that brought me to Christ.

Following is my testimony and hopefully a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of being lukewarm for Christ and The Gospel. As well as seeking to fulfill our desires outside God’s design for them.
From my earliest memories, I wanted to be married. I remember having a crush on my 1st grade teacher, Ms. Jones and fantasizing about asking her to marry me. My desire and the way I went about fulfilling it remained just as ridiculous until I was saved from the dominion of sin.
My mother didn’t marry until I was 11 years old. While I can be grateful to my parents for introducing me to Christ and doing their best to provide an example for me and my siblings, they were lukewarm at best. So their marriage was and is tumultuous.
As a result me and my siblings were exposed to conversations and situations we were not able to process in a healthy way. This was mostly due to my parent’s lack of Biblical knowledge and the accompanying desire to sin. So I grew up with a warped view of what marriage and love were.
I spent much of my childhood praying every night. That stopped around the time my parents separated and we moved across the country for the 2nd time in as many years. Infidelity was the instigator and my mother did not handle it well. I was heart broken for her and angry with my father for doing this to our family.
A few months later my mother informed me that they were getting back together. I didn’t understand. I couldn’t accept her decision after the things she said and felt. I told her I wouldn’t live in the same house with him and instead lived with my grandparents for a year. I was 12.
I see now that my mother had no business sharing the things she did with a 12 year old. I had no idea how to deal with that information. What resulted was a loss of respect for my parents, marriage, and God’s will.
I still feared God, and it kept me from doing anything that would ruin my life outright. Throughout the years we had attended a few churches sporadically. My first two years of high school I attended more often. I went to a Baptist church that my friend’s family belonged to and was baptized there in 1998. I was a Christian by profession only. I didn’t study my Bible or pray regularly.
The next 2 years were filled with sports and the pursuit of relationships. I had a few girlfriends in high school but I was terrified of sex. It wasn’t until I was 18 years old that I actually went through with it. There was a Bible in the room and before my girlfriend arrived, I hid it in the dresser drawer. That act would symbolize my relationship with God for the next 20 years!
Once I was introduced to sex, God went out the window. My girlfriend broke up with me for an older guy and I was devastated. Instead of placing the blame where it belonged. I placed it on her. If only I could find the right person to fornicate with it would be alright. I was delusional and I sought relationships that fueled that delusion.
It was also during this time that I started searching for truth everywhere but the Bible. I studied the world’s religions and philosophies and started to build my own personal religion and spiritual perspective. I was enamored with Taoism and many new-age practices. This was also when I began to experiment with various drugs and was only kept safe through that time in my life by the grace of God.
I had one serious relationship around the age of 21. We had sex and lived together. Needless to say, it didn’t last and yet again I was devastated. Over the next few years or so I tried to drown my pain with even more fornication. I slept with several women who I had no intention of marrying.
One of those, was a woman who ended up getting married to someone else while carrying on a relationship with me. My delusion and addiction to sex kept me attached to that situation long after it was obviously a terrible idea. Now my unchecked lust for companionship, affection and physical intimacy had led me into adultery.
After the pain of ending that relationship I was single for many years. I still wasn’t living in a way that honored God. I watched porn periodically but was starting to see how it harmed me and my chances for the kind of relationship I wanted. I started to be very selective about what I watched and eventually stopped altogether as nothing met my standard. I didn’t know it then but my standard for sex was slowly becoming what God standard is. Marriage, between a man and a woman.
Around my 30th birthday, I got in touch with a friend from high school. We had entertained the idea of dating back then but nothing ever happened. Now we were 30 and she had been divorced for a couple years.
We started a relationship based on sex. I tried to convince myself it was more than that. It wasn’t. We were careless and she got pregnant. Then the ultimatum came. Marry her and join her church or she would get an abortion. I was highly disturbed and offended by that.
I tried to attend her church and was repelled by the way they went about things. Also, her hypocrisy was disgusting to me. I told her I couldn’t join her church or marry someone who was willing to kill a child so they could pretend to be pure. She went through with the abortion and we didn’t speak for many years after that.
Again, I was devastated and miserable. I stopped pursuing sex and relationships. I threw myself into work and eventually burned out. It was then that I decided to leave California and move to Oregon where my family had been trying to get me to relocate for years.
So I left behind everything I knew and was familiar with and moved my life. It wasn’t long after arriving that the loneliness that characterized my life resurfaced. So I wrote a personal ad and posted it on the local craigslist. My ex-wife responded.
I met my ex-wife in 2015.
When we met, I was pretty sure I was a Christian. She was absolutely sure she was.
I had been baptized 17 years earlier and had tried to live a “Godly” life despite continuing to sin and not reading the Bible regularly.
I did not know it then, but I had no idea what it meant to be a true Christian.
In reality, I was in open rebellion against God. I justified my sin and made my own rules to follow instead of God’s and all the while I desperately tried to convince myself I was a “good” person.
She was 9 years older and had amazing stories about how God had worked in her life to free her from drug addiction and abuse. She also had a familiarity with scripture that I envied. I saw in her the level of faith I wanted to achieve. I believed in her sincerity and ignored some obvious signs to the contrary. Like pre-marital sex.
We got married anyways. Maybe to justify what we both knew was wrong. It wasn't long after our marriage that things started to change. She made some questionable decisions that I voiced my concern or disapproval of. She justified them by using God and the Bible which I had yet to truly study. So I relented. She had studied the Bible more than me, she must know more than I do. It wasn’t just that I trusted her, I wasn’t ready to know God the way I do now.
I came to understand just how complicated and specific her beliefs were. Among them were that God speaks to us directly in our thoughts. That every Christian must be baptized with “fire”, by a Spirit-filled person, only then can they be filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they would receive their spiritual gifts. Tongues, prophecy, visions, dreams, weather manipulation, invisibility and supernatural earthly blessings. Emphasis on the earthly blessings.
None of that seemed right to me. It just didn’t jive with what I knew about Christ but I didn’t look into it, there were plenty of preachers on television who seemed to think that stuff was true. Maybe I just didn’t believe enough and that’s why I couldn’t understand it. The only “church” we “attended” were charismatic and Pentecostal “services” on television.
Meanwhile our relationship was steadily worsening. Any complaint I had about how I was being treated or concern over the deterioration of our marriage was brushed off as “demons influencing my thoughts against her”. In her eyes everything she did was justified and excused. While I never bought that entirely, I did accept that I had to be responsible in some manner.
So I focused on myself and one by one addressed the areas of my life and personality that I knew needed work. Around this time I started reading the Bible periodically. Not study, just perusing for inspiration or some quick wisdom. I also started listening to Podcasts and subscribing to newsletters and blogs about Christian marriage.
The influx of information had a dual effect. I was learning about what it took to have a marriage that honored God. I was also learning, that was not what I had. I was lonely, depressed and tempted to spend time with female co-workers I was attracted to. I never did, but having to fight temptation at work and depression at home was incredibly stressful.
We fought more often about inconsequential things and I couldn’t figure out why. Despite being miserable, I didn’t want to fight. What I really wanted was to be heard. All I ever got was from her was “I don’t agree”. Nothing was ever addressed or solved between us.
So I stopped wanting to be heard or understood. I silenced and neglected my heart and it grew cold and resentful. I started spending more time by myself. My health started to deteriorate and I tried to cover up the symptoms with energy drinks, marijuana, cigarettes and excuses of various sorts.
Years went by like this. We moved from crisis to crisis and were continually putting out fires, real and imaginary. Any attempt I made to reduce the frequency of these events was resented. The stress and tension continued to build.
Then there was the last fight I ever had with her. She had done something disrespectful. It wasn’t even anything that bad. It was just the last straw. I was angry, so angry that I didn’t even want to talk to her about it. Despite me asking her not to, she persisted and it turned into a fight.
I said the most horrible things. I told her that I didn’t care what she thought or wanted. I told her what she was saying was pathetic and stupid. I don’t even remember if those were my words exactly, what I remember clearly was what was in my heart. It was hate. I hated my wife.
When I reflected on it soon afterward, I was shocked and ashamed. I was completely unaware of how bad the state of my heart had become.
It was around that time I came across a book called. “How to Thrive Despite a Difficult Marriage.” The premise was, there are a few choices for Christians in bad marriages. Happily Ever After(rose colored glasses outlook) Noble Misery(woe is me) or Thriving Despite.
It describes how Thriving Despite requires taking responsibility for what we have done to our hearts. I already knew my heart was in a bad state. I had at least partly blamed her for that. I came to see how that just wasn’t true.
I and only me had abused my heart, terribly. I had taken a beautiful gift (my love-filled, passionate, tender, affectionate, merciful, generous heart) and abused, scarred, singed, and crushed it beyond all recognition in the pursuit of self-righteousness and lust. My heart had become a rotten stone inside me trying to poison everything around me.
The worst part about it is that I knew there was nothing I could do about it. I had essentially ruined myself. I wanted to disappear into nothingness, to have never been. I repented my disobedience and self-willed stubbornness. In desperation and faith I called out to God to please create in me a clean heart. Even though I didn’t deserve it. I was done trying to do things my way. It was going to be God’s way or the grave.
Amazingly, He did. Through His grace, I was saved.
(Ezekiel 36:26-27) And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
Everything changed. The confusion, anger and resentment were gone. Replacing it was a hunger for the Word and a desire to serve the God that had just saved my life. I was free to forgive and love her again, so I did. Which made things worse for her.
She couldn’t understand the change in me and started looking for something to blame. I knew what it was really about. I had done a lot of research into “tongues” and other abilities attributed to the Holy Spirit and found out that what happened to me (being born-again) was a legitimate function of The Spirit. The modern version of tongues is not and it was definitely not a sign of salvation.
When I told her through study I had come to understand that “tongues” were not something I was interested in, she lost it.
She told me she had been waiting for 2 years for me to get baptized with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues and she wasn’t prepared to go on being my wife until I did.
I explained how God had saved me and cleansed my heart of all the horrible things I had done to it. I apologized to her and asked forgiveness for how I failed her as a husband up until then. She said she could forgive me but without the “baptism of fire” she couldn’t trust that I was actually saved.
I assured her that I definitely was. That the miracle in my heart was proof enough for me and that I would never speak in “tongues” to prove my faith.
Unfortunately, she was convinced of her salvation solely by the evidence of speaking in tongues. Not the fruits of the spirit. Which were sorely lacking from her heart.
Again it was “tongues” or divorce. I told her that I wouldn’t do either because both were against God’s word. That’s when things escalated. On her part. She tried to exorcize “not believing in tongues demons” out of me. It didn’t work and only made her more angry.
She asked me to leave and I told her I didn’t want to or think it was necessary. But I would if she absolutely needed me to. A few days is what she asked for. So I willingly gave her the time she asked for. After a few days, it was the same story. Tongues. I went back once more a few days after that and her rage returned yet again when I told her tongues wasn’t happening. For the sake of peace, I left and never returned there as my home.
I wanted to divorce immediately after that but my conscience wouldn’t allow it. So I pleaded with her over email and text. I again asked for forgiveness for everything I had done and all the ways I had failed our marriage in the eyes of God and according to his word. I offered to come back and serve her like Christ served the Church and gave his life for us and needing nothing for myself.
Now that I was saved, I actually knew how to, and was grateful to be able to. I just wouldn't speak in "tongues". She responded by saying that it didn’t matter what I or the Bible or anyone said. The holy-spirit told her that I don’t have the holy-spirit and until I do, there was no point and to just sign the divorce papers.
By this time I had found a Church with sound theology and began attending by myself. She refused to go because they were not “spirit-filled" by her definition (tongues). I consulted with my pastor and buried myself in the Bible. As her behavior became more hurtful, contradictory and dishonest, I was more certain than ever that she was an unbeliever. An incredibly deluded one.
I was growing in Christ every day and the sense of peace I felt even in the midst of chaos and turmoil was incredible and powerful. When ever we did talk during this time , it all came back to “tongues”.
Once I realized the problem was fundamentally theological I asked her to try Biblical counseling with me. At this point we had already been separated for some time. She agreed at first, then changed her mind once she realized my Pastor is a strictly Biblical counselor. Who does not consider visions or direct revelation from God to be a valid reason for disobeying the written Word of God.
I hoped and prayed that she would see that she was misled and lied to and she based her whole faith on that lie. That prayer has yet to come true to my knowledge but I still pray for it. Once she refused counseling, removed me from the rental lease and changed the locks on the house, I relented and signed the divorce papers.
1 Corinthians 7:15 But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you to peace.
Everything that has happened since then has only assured me of the validity of that decision. I’ve been continually blessed with fellowship, guidance, provision, purpose, opportunity to share my testimony, and a job that let’s me use the gifts God gave me for His Glory. Not to mention a sense of peace that I couldn’t have imagined before knowing from firsthand experience the love, mercy and grace of Our Father in Heaven. I finally had what I craved my whole life. Peace with God.
So, what really caused our divorce? Ignorance, self righteousness, fear, sin. On both our parts. The desire to do what we wanted over God’s will for us. As it is defined clearly by the Bible.
Once I was saved, everything about me and how I lived made her question her faith. She couldn't handle that and needed me to conform to her belief system. There was a lot of provocation and trial toward the end but the Holy spirit protected me through it all and allowed me to represent Christ in my words and actions. I will be eternally grateful for that amazing display of his power over my heart and mouth.
Instead of responding to evil with evil. I was able to respond with love, patience, kindness, humility understanding and gratitude. Despite being abused, attacked and ultimately abandoned.
She has no desire to reconcile or remarry. As anything that will interfere with her personal religion (not relationship to God) is not acceptable.
(Romans 1:21-22)
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools
There is a point where the accumulation of sin leads to a darkened heart and a depraved mind. It’s a terrible place to live and most people don’t realize when they are in it. God is the only salvation from that living death and the self righteousness that consumes the unrepentant sinner’s every waking moment.
So please always be aware of people who claim to speak for God. Unless they are reading directly from the Bible they are not speaking for God. Knowingly or not they are leading people into the hands of the enemy of God and eternal torment.
The Bible is a complete guide to salvation, sanctification and the truth.
(2 Timothy 3:16)
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
When combined with the Holy Spirit, that dwells in every believer from the moment they are spiritually reborn by God’s grace and active participation in a Church with a high view of Scripture, the Bible can be and should be understood personally by every believer.
How can we serve, worship and represent someone we only know through hearsay?
A personal relationship with The Father, Son and Spirit are not preferred they are necessary.
Faith Alone, Grace Alone, Christ Alone, Scripture Alone, for the Glory of God Alone.
Thank you for reading.

2020.11.23 07:06 thou_shall_uwu Hurt from being raised in a sexist, conservationist, Christian household.

WARNINGS: LONG!!! story/rant. Mentions of sex/sex-shaming/purity culture and swear words. Toxic/invasive behavior from Christian parents. Overall sadness on my part.
I just want to vent and if you have advice or encouragement, please go ahead. If not, that's completely fine too. I'm just hurting and I want to let it out.

Hi. I thought coming here would be a good idea, so here we go.I(22f) used to attend a Christian church here in Mexico, with my mother ever since I was about 7 years old or so. My mom "converted" my dad (he was just unattached to the institution, always been traditionalist). I was a strong member of the church, I suppose, in middle and high school, and we all left the state because they insisted I should still be at home while I was in college.
Today, I'm on the last stretch to get out of college, and almost two years ago I met who's currently my bf(26m) and we have such a good relationship, incredibly happy together. Ever since we met, he's made me feel very comfortable and devoid of the restrictions of "correct behavior" I have with my parents, who yes, are very conservative and strict Christians. My bf is an atheist.
Meanwhile me, I had been questioning the beliefs that were thrust upon me for about 5 years already, and with more time passing, I've become less and less believing of the institution of the church, its "rules" for "righteous" living, and its standards for women and relationships. I see it as bullshit now that I see it all more critically. If that's worked for anyone, I'm happy for them- but it's not for me. The choices and beliefs I feel like are for me are so much different than what my parents did. Their context is they met in middle school, and were together for 15 years before marriage, and allegedly never once were even alone together without "supervision" before they got hitched (and they had me 9 months later, who would've guessed?)- they definetely come from a different time and see what they did as a completely logical course of action.
During the start of the pandemic in March, my bf and I didn't see each other at all for 3+ months straight, and it was very much distressing. When I made the pact of trusting him to visit when things started to calm down in our state, it was a wonderful day, but we were also very sleepy. I offered we lay down on my bed in my room to take a nap and left the door open. When my dad found out I had done that, he waited till my bf was gone and went off on me about how I had possibly DARED to do that. Even that smallest comfort was an insult in their eyes, neither of them ever truly let that "slip" go. A NAP. Something that is BASIC bonding with a significant other...I felt like shit about wanting that simple comfort. My bf comforted me that it wasn't an unreasonable one, and my parents just had skewed priorities.
When our relationship was solidly 10 months in, my father told me to my face, that "sleeping with a man before marriage is the worst mistake you can do in your life" "it means he doesn't respect you" "men change after having their way" "you have to respect yourself" "a good man is the one who waits" "it will ruin the relationship" "you don't know him"- just extremely sexist shit. This happened after me kindly pleading for permission for them, for months, to let me visit my bf's place sometime for a change since he'd always been the one going all the way to my parent's house for lunch and our house dates. Obviously, my dad still refuses, and my mom does too- just less loudly. And after that "INCIDENT" (the nap), it's even worse. It would be a common thing in our dates for my dad to purposely stay in the living room doing absolutely nothing, straight up chaperoning a couple of 22-26-year-olds like you might do for 13-year-olds.
Eventually, my parents had to temporarily leave the state for business matters. I got to stay in the house on my own, finally being ALLOWED to take care of myself and a place for the first time (my dad had never trusted me to before), it was a huge learning curve but I managed, I'm alive and kicking. My dad absolutely forbade me from bringing my bf to the house while they were gone of course. But I was tired, and I saw no reason to distance myself further from my bf now that I was all by myself in the house. We had dates and I visited his place every weekend that I was able- and it was wonderful. Sure, we had the chance to responsibly fool around and finally discover things about each other without constant outside stress- but also we were simply able to just be domestic with each other and coexist like an ordinary couple. It was so natural. Hell, for our anniversary, we made a meal, cooked together many other times... it all made me so infinitely happy. But it broke my heart that I was basically obligated to keep all my happiness a secret from two important people in my life.
I cried many times, feeling guilty that I had "broken" this "perfect" image of my obedient "pure" self. That I didn't deserve to enjoy it, to have fun, to feel fulfilled if it wasn't like how I was "supposed" to. That the reason for my happiness was bad, and that I was a bad person for it. My bf fully supported me through, never harsh or insensitive about my guilt and shame complexes, and I can't thank him enough. Sometimes I could just let go and just be happy. But unfortunately, there would be times, especially in physical acts where I couldn't even fully relax, fully let go, because I was so distressed that I didn't deserve to feel good about something like that, because it made me a horrible person, a worse daughter, and if my parents weren't my parents I would just be another "young woman who doesn't respect herself- that's so disappointing." I had a worm of sadness eating me from the inside when I realized I wouldn't have the same freedom to simply be me, with him, how I wanted to after my parents came back. They did after almost 3 months, 3 months where we had to keep that secret just so my parents wouldn't flip. I hated to had to have my bf and me keep it all hush just to keep ourselves safer from them. I just wanted to speak about my happiness, he did too. After those 3 months, we're feeling even more connected and certain of our connection, but I can't be genuine about my parents about it at all.
After I invited the bf to a house date "after so long", my parents hadn't chilled that much about the watchful eye. The next day, my mom woke me up. And she asked me to my face as I was STILL half asleep: "Did you sleep with him?" I was wearing a hoodie of his, which was my segway "I got this, so I sleep with this". Maybe she simply believed it, but maybe not. I honestly thought it was horrid how she looked for me in a vulnerable drowsy moment to ask me something that invasive, to most likely get me to confess whatever she could get out of me. Quotes from that questionnaire include "What does he tell you" "does he say...y'know, stuff? Is he flirting? Is he seducing you?" "were you two making out? your hair was a mess. you're totally french kissing, wow" "he thinks I don't know he goes crazy but I totally know he does"- I wished I was kidding about the phrasing.
I was a wreck for the rest of the day. It plagued me for the rest of the week. It's still there in the back of my mind. My mother has always encouraged open communication about everything, but after knowing how she reacted to something that wasn't even sex-related, I know I can't be any measure of genuine. It fucks me up, it makes me so sad, but I know I can't do anything to change them without their cooperation. They just think they're correct, and that they just know what's better. Almost two years since the concept of me being in a relationship has been on the table, and I feel like I haven't made a dent.
Back where I grew up,, I once feared for my friends pushing me away because of me trying to "stay a good Christian" and not "being with worldly people". It evolved to me fearing that my lack of worldly experience in anything but the church would alienate me from new friends of my new life in a new city. And now it bleeds to me fearing that I'll push a great relationship away because I simply want him to have something better, someone without this much guilt and sadness and pain and shame about the simplest things most couples do. I hate that I can come back from a wonderful evening with him and silently cry in my room after because I just feel like crap from hiding from my parents what doesn't deserve to be hidden. Because I fear like I can't kick away this pit in my stomach about how they'll hate me and will never see me as anything but the one that should've listened, should've been a better woman and wasn't because she didn't believe in "decent values" and jesus hard enough.
The close family that knows my parents will constantly affirm to me that I'll never be allowed many freedoms while they're in their right mind, especially in this regard - like I don't know it. I just wished I knew how to at least stop feeling like shit, dealing with these cards.
TL;DR: I deeply question my past identity as a Christian. My very Christian traditionalist parents do not let me(22f) just be in my happy relationship unless I'm abiding by their idea of how "correct" relationships work. I'm distressed and spiral into religious guilt/shame about my happiness often. I wanna know how to feel better about myself.
If you read till here know I really appreciate it, I hope you're doing well!

2020.11.23 04:23 rlcute /r/againstdegeneratesubs made a change petition to ban fds lol scrotes mad

The text from the petition: "This subreddit spreads misandry and toxic mindsets to women. It teaches women entitlement against men. They automatically ban men from commenting and ban anyone that posts on subreddits they don’t approve of. They operate in a very cult like manner, and very much like redpill and incels."
Men are truly upset that women are demanding our own spaces, and that we dare to have standards. "Misandry" my ass. They're so privileged they don't even know what sexism is.
"Teaches women entitlement against men" uuuh YES? The entitlement of basic respect and basic things like hygiene and not consuming porn. How dare we have standards.
Pathetic bunch of clowns

Edit: The creator of the petition is female. Yikes.
Some quotes from the comment section:
Female dating strategy. A subreddit for female incels, or legbeards, whichever term you preffer
We're female incels and legbeards apparently 😂
Let the sub stay. They can act like bitches there rather than everywhere else. Being surrounded by other femcels will make them happy, so less bitching for everyone else to hear
"Bitches". Nuff said.
Nah, pretty sure sexism isn't allowed on Reddit as a general rule.

Just because child porn exists doesn't make it any better. I know child porn is messed up, but we shouldn't ignore this. The sub is degenerative because is sexist. I appreciate what you did and signed up.
It's sexism to reject men, ladies
Absolutely. That sub scares me because there's so many of them and a lot of them are on r / askwomen
because we're women ???
Any sub that’s as misogynistic as fds is misandristic would be deleted so fast.
Yes we hate men. That's why we date them and have husbands and boyfriends. Makes perfect sense.
It is harmful. Its not like we only have to choose the greater of two evils. Female incels are a hindrance to society, no matter how much it offends you if I say I dont like them.
A "hindrance"? What's that supposed to mean? And again with the incel talk 😂 Someone replied: " Yeah but you’re a fucking idiot, women making jokes about men are no where near worthy of the title “degenerate” just because you don’t like something it doesn’t make it harmful or “degenerate " and got downvoted hard. The replies:
Nope, sexism is sexism. No amount of white knighting and getting triggered to that fact will change my mind.
"White knighting" "getting triggered" hmmmm familiar language
It's not just making jokes about men, those women on that sub have incredibly toxic and harmful mindsets.
"Why won't the women date me?"
It’s to point out the double standard, that reddit admins seem to think that misandry and femcels are better than misogyny and incels. If they banned incel subs and quarantined MGTOW, they should do the same to FDS. It’s either everything is okay, or nothing is okay.
Incels and MGOTW/Red pill: "How to rape women?"Us: "I bought myself a diamond ring"
Nope. I really like their stance against liberal feminism, sex work, and porn. We need more women like them.
Do they realise that we're radical feminists? Sounds like they think we're not feminists.
They are against sexual immorality and degeneracy (porn, hookup culture etc), providing very refreshing takes, especially from young women.
"Sexual immorality" uuuuuuuh. Since when have we ever spoken of ethics/morals? This is all sounding veeeeery familiar.
Reddit admins support hate against men, christians and whites. That's why subs that promote such vile hate get to stay around
Oh they also don't like /atheism because they make fun of religious people.

2020.11.19 23:03 Orpherischt The Basic

In the prime number cipher:
Many of you will have heard of Event 201, which informed us about the coming 'Coronavirus pandemic'.
Rambling Context:
I first began looking into the number 1933 (and thus also 933) because of this novel, published in that year (of which I have a very yellowed 1930's print edition)...
The novel has the frame story that it is a record of a series of dreams by a UN politician, which were confided to the 'author'. The entire book is written as a history book for the school student of 2106 AD, explaining the fall of our current civilization and how our future (and their current) Utopia was built. Critics go to lengths to discredit the various 'predictions' made but in general, there is a thematic arch that is nonetheless perhaps worth paying attention to (ie. exact dates are not really relevant, but the sequence is - it's the changes in the society, and the forces causing them, and in what order, that are perhaps more important - worth paying attention to as political lessons, if not as some form of prophecy or predictive programming, which cannot be discounted).
I have read the Shape of Things to Come twice, both times years ago. After my first read-through, I was impressed and entirely depressed, coming to reflect anew upon the dismal state of affairs in our own time. That things could be fixed if we could just do ... this or that.
A few years later, reading it again, I had a totally different impression. I was horrified at the Grand Presumption that Scientific Order claimed for itself as Shepherd of Man - not so much in the abstract - but because of the inevitable corruption that stains all valorous abstractions. No centrally powerful priesthood can be trusted, until man is perfected - which of course, is the overarching theme of the novel.
I might have to go through it again to see how my perspective might have shifted since the last reading.
Anyway, of the novel ('Europe' can imply all of 'western civilization', and perhaps might represent the entire world), wikipedia has:
A long economic slump causes a major war that leaves Europe devastated and threatened by plague. The nations with the strongest air-forces set up a benevolent dictatorship that paves the way for world peace by abolishing national divisions, enforcing the English language, promoting scientific learning and outlawing religion. The enlightened world-citizens are able to depose the dictators peacefully, and go on to breed a new race of super-talents, able to maintain a permanent utopia.
The book was published in 1933

  • .. "Catch the Coronavirus" = 1933 trigonal
  • ... "You cannot deny it" = 1933 trigonal
  • ... ... "The Infection" = 933 trigonal
  • ... ... "SARS-CoV-2" = 933 trigonal
  • ... ... .. [ "Original Sin" = 933 trigonal ]
  • ... ... .. .. (ie. The Bible is another key Textbook)
The number 933 is composed of 93 and 33.

  • ... .. .. ... .. ( "Soul" = "Temple" = 224 primes )
Wells' predicted war ends with no victor but total exhaustion, collapse and disintegration of all the fighting states and of the neutral countries, which are equally affected by the deepening economic crisis. The whole world descends into chaos: nearly all governments break down, and a devastating plague in 1956 and 1957 kills a large part of humanity and almost destroys civilization.
Wells then envisages a benevolent dictatorship, "The Dictatorship of the Air", which arises from the controllers of the world's surviving transport systems, who are the only people with global power. The dictatorship promotes science, enforces Basic English as a global lingua franca and eradicates all religions, setting the world on the road to a peaceful utopia. When the dictatorship chooses to execute a subject, the condemned person is given a chance to take a poison tablet (modelled on the Hemlock given to Socrates).
  • "Dictatorship of the Air" = "A Novel Coronavirus" = 224 alphabetic
The achievement of a classless society is not via a Marxist Dictatorship of the Proletariat, an idea that Wells completely rejected. Rather, the working class is massively "pulled upwards" and completely eliminated in several generations of intensive upward social mobility, in effect leaving a humanity entirely composed of "middle class intellectuals". The limited amount of physical labor still needed is performed by the world's youths, who undergo two years of "labor conscription" instead of military conscription, which is no longer needed.
  • "Middle class intellectual" = 1,189 english-extended

  • ... .. .. ( "A First Step" = 1,189 trigonal )
  • ... .. .. [ "Breaking News" = 1,189 jewish-latin-agrippa ]
Eventually, after about 100 years of reshaping humanity, the Dictatorship of the Air is overthrown in a completely-bloodless coup, the former rulers are sent into honourable retirement and the world state "withers away". The last part of the book is a detailed description of the utopian world that emerges. The ultimate aim of this utopian world is to produce a world society composed entirely of polymaths, every one of its members being the intellectual equal of the greatest geniuses of the past.
  • "The Utopian Society" = 2020 trigonal
  • "Coronavirus Religion" = 2020 trigonal
The book displays one of the earliest uses of the abbreviation "C.E.", which Wells explains as "Christian Era" but it is now more usually understood as "Common Era"
The 'bloodless coup' is what I reference in terms of 'forgiveness' in this sort-of-poem:
This year is 2020 AD, and next year is 2021 AD

Many understand '20/20' vision as a symbol for clear sight, which we might extend to 'understanding'.
  • "Eye Measure" = 2020 squares [ ruler @ measure ]
Do you have 20/20 vision? Are the small letters on the chart...

The Meat of the Matter:
The main reason for this thread is the notion of the 'enforcing of Basic English'. Of course, this has happened already, for a large portion of the world, in terms of much day-to-day commerce. English is the international language of worldwide Air Traffic Control. The 26-letter English-Latin alphabet is used, with little modification, by those writing many other languages.

As they say...
'As it is written, so it shall be done.'
I will modify that:
"As it is written, so it is done" = 108 reduced 1980 jewish-latin-agrippa
I make that modification because of its changed semantics, and to reference the key number 108, and because I was conceived in 1980, and born the next year.
The number 108 crops up in many religious observances, as well as in the orbital mechanics of Sun, Moon and Earth.

'Gematria' is the Art of Numbers hiding behind Letters. It implies 'Geometry of Writing'.

The Interactions of the Moon and Sun are Alchemical Keys, being Female and Male archetypes (at the very least). The Eclipse is a Key.
The 'Bicycle' is a 'Two-cycle', and the Sun and Moon have two interlocking cycles.
Time, and Timekeeping are Keys. The Kiss is one of the Great Keys.

  • "Basic English" = 742 trigonal
  • "The New Lore of Spelling" = 742 primes
  • .. "Welcome to the School" = 1,742 trigonal
The golden ratio accurate to three decimal places, is 1.618...
  • "Know the Basic English School" = 1,618 jewish-latin-agrippa
  • ... ( "Know a textbook" = 1,618 jewish-latin-agrippa )
The map is not the territory (the terror of torah), or so they say.
  • "Know Geography" = 1,618 jewish-latin-agrippa

It will be up to you to decide if the enforcement of Basic English is to be desired or not.
And it will be up to you to decide if my writings here are aiding the Language Conquest envisioned in the novel, or working against it, or stand as neutral witness.
I am not sure myself.
The word Witness is a Key.
As is, Written.
T H E . B A S I C ( "Enforce the English Language" = 711 primes ) [ enforce @ one force ]
0. Zero.Nothing.Circle.Zero.Cipher.Corona.Everything.Circle.Zero (@ Nero @ Eroz @ Eros).Fool(ing).
1. Language is an Enigma (Machine). 'A' is a Key. Either you have a Point, or you don't. Initiation. Unity. Monolith. God. Adam. Sword. Spear. Obelisk. Tower. Phallus.
2. Language is a Transmission of Enigmatic Spells, encoding Ideas. There are many 'Languages', but they are Dividing Branches rooted in The One Tree of Language. Division is a Key. Division is a Math-thematical Operation, and the Operation is the Great Work. Division is the trickiest of the basic algebraic procedures. The Monad divides into the Dyad, yet the Monad, or it's Concept, remains. Two hands (or Wings) work better than One. Animals onto the Archive two-by-two. Yin-yang. Male-Female. Opposition and Adversity. Duality is a Duel that Ties. Breaking News: To Be or not, is a Key. Two Points implies a Vector: a Direction. The Vector has a Direction. The Victor has an Objective. One walks the Beaten Path, or strays, which may or may not be to go astray. Diversity due to Polarities. Eve. Two Towers.
3. There are ostensibly Practical Ideas (needs, desires, dangers, general denotion of objects) and Abstract Ideas (futures, pasts, times, organisms, systems, numbers, symbols, relationships, metaphors). Sometimes the Practical is used to refer to the Ideal, and vise versa. While you might have a single Definition or understanding of a Word, others might have more, and imply them in their works, and if you blink, you just might miss them. ABC is a Key. Trilogy, Trinity and Threesome are Three Keys. Fire and Water. Air and Earth. The Triangle is a Pyramid viewed from one side. The Triangle is A First Surface. It is a Field, Bounded, like a Circle or Sphere, which are themselves expanded Points. Interloper. Intermediary. Synergy. Know Family is a Key. Families are made by Spelling.
4. In commonly-known lore, Spells are Magic Enigmas, cast by Gods, Wizards and Witches, characters associated with wisdom, intelligence and guile. Characters that are never 'arbitrary', but rather 'nice' (in the obsolete sense of the word). Square wheels square the circle. How many Corners hath the Earth? ABCD is a Key: The Door Deletes Memory. The Cube in which you sit is a Key. Who are you sitting there For?
5. The Spells (ie. words in the Dictionary and the Saurus) were made and then formalized by a God, Wizard or Witch. It is likely they contain niceties. Most people cast spells unwittingly. Mages cast them knowingly. There is no Fairy Tale, and no Fantasy, if there is no Spell of some kind. Spells are Elemental, and thus Particular. 'V' is a Key, reflecting 'Λ', and these being reflections of the Sounds of El. Apple. Quintessence. The Blazing Star. Pentagram of Venus. Fever. Five is a Key.
6. The Lexicon might be a Dark Crystal of information in more metaphorical ways than one. The Enigmatic Crystal is perhaps partly broken down, or shattered. The cracks might be found in the division between French and German, or between English and Russian, or between the dialects of Khoe and Hebrew, between Fire and Water, and between Earth and Air. The cracks are how the light gets in [see the splintering of the geometric tongues reflected in the film Arrival]. The word 'crack' is the word 'church' in disguise (and this sort of fluid linguistic transformation - a liquid wordplay - is a Key to the Language of the Birds). The church is built upon, or within, a Rock. A small Rock is a Stone, or the Isopsephic Pebble of the Philosopher. Perfection. Inhalation.
7. There are perhaps Key Ideas.
8. Key Ideas are likely to be those things that most Awed the Creator of the Enigma: that prompted the Creation of the Enigma in the First Place. And it is likely that these Keys are those used to unlock it - or to align it (or the Perceiver) so that it's Contents might be correctly perceived. Fine Optics requires Precision Geometry. Curves are Angelic Keys. Time Stops if you turn the Hourglass on it's side. The Octopi is thinking. Do not Cross the Beams. Do as I say, and not as I do. Do something.
9. The 'Manuscript', and in particular, 'The Illuminated Manuscript', is a Key. The 'Light' of the 'Illumination' is a literal and figurative wordplay, as is the closely related key, 'The Book' (and so too it's Pages, and it's Letters, it's Contents, and it's Index). Illuminated Letters. Letters of Light. The opposite of Light is Shade. The Shadow is a Key. The Gnomon, or Gnome, projects a Shadow in order to Measure the Geometry of the Light. You are made of Light, yet you are invisible in the Dark. Though you are of Light, you have Darkness in You. If the Enigma reflects you, or if you are of it's Pattern, then so it is with the Enigma. The Brightest Flame burns quickest. Exhalation. The Dark is that which is In Umber.
10. Words (spells) contain Alphanumeric Spectra (ie. Specter, the Digital Ghost in the Machine). That is, they contain enciphered Numbers (data points, or da'at pints). The Number is The Key. These numbers are implicit. They have not been 'assigned' to the Letters in the Alphabet, but rather, the Act of standardizing the Alphabetic Order conjures the Cyphers (Sefers, Serifs, Seraphs, Surfers) into existence. Either you acknowledge them or you do not. Either you see the potential that these numeric spectrum could have been intentionally constructed by act of letter choice, or you do not. The Tetractys is a Key. Completeness. The Cross. X. +. Go forth and multiply (by repeated addition, that which is achieved by dividing).
11. The Spectrum of a Spell is the set of numbers extracted from a set of cyphers. I argue that those most obvious and intuitive cyphers are the ones that deserve the most investigation, and the more obfuscated and twisted the cipher mapping, the less likely investigation will lead to results (with the caveat of the Theory of Totality - that indeed, the Lexicon is the Monolith and a Deific Mind Map, with information to be extracted no matter the angle of incidence). In selecting cyphers to observe, we consider again the Mind of the Architect of the Enigma. What would interest IT? ... Prime numbers are Prime. They are Primary. They are the Singletons, the Black Holes, the Gods or Titans of numbers. Obviously, a Wizard will prefer them, or at least revere them. The Division of Odd and Even is a Key. Those Numbers that implicitly denote constructive Geometry, like the Triangular numbers and the Squares, and the Hexes, and the Stars, etc. will likely be leveraged as Elemental Tools. The Wizard in Dungeons & Dragons has a Spell-component Pouch (itself a metaphor). 'The Master' is a Key.
12. Knights of the Round Table. 12 Disciples. 12 Labours. 12 Hours in a half-day. Time is Key, and Counting Times is Key, and Counting is The Key. Adding is a Key, as is the Adder. The Total is a Key, as is the Summit. The Speech is a Key, as is the Peak of the Mound of Spice. The Oral History is itself it's own Key. Mythology and Legendarium, and Religious Icons are Keys. Old Canon catch-phrases are Inceptions. The Circle is a Key.
13. The word Lucky <--- Luce / Luke <--- Luccifer <-- Light-bearer <-- Illuminator
14. Accept Death, but do not dwell on it. Nonetheless, Death is a Key. Unlearn what you have Learned, but Remember all of it.
15. The Yin-Yang is a Key. Opposites Oppose, and Opposites Attract. As-above-so-below. If in doubt, Revolve. There will be Drama. There will be Trauma. There will be Dreams. There will be Drums. Find the Light in the Dark. Be the Light in the Dark - a Derk of the Light. The Torque of the Vortex. Speech is a Hurricane, if you are small enough. The Selfish Occultist Hides, while the Occultist Mentor Reveals by making a Show of Hiding. A Teacher shows what he or she Knows - but some would say that Knowledge cometh through Trial only.
16. Innuendo is Eternal. He or She that casts Spells is a Cunning Linguist. The Language Enigma is better understood when one sees that the Ocean of Language is Naughty Tickle. The Best Parts are Hidden, as are the Scariest ones.
...18. What came first - the Chicken or the Egg? As it is with Metaphor. From whence Life?
...19. At any particular Time, to avoid Chaos, some things are (Generally) Forbidden. Reflections are not the Thing Reflected, except when they are. Enneadecaeteris.
...20. Zero is the Sigil of the Cipher itself. Adding Zeros is to add 'Encipherment'. It also Magnifies, which is to pull the Eye toward it. Numbers with Magnifying Zeroes are simultaneously stronger and weaker than the reduced form of the number (ie. 20 vs 200 vs 2)
...21. Pirate Jokes are Keys.
...22. Think like the Architect, in order to understand the justifications for his Magnum Opus. If you don't know how he thinks, it might be worthwhile exercise to try and discover it.
...23. The Enigma is a Key.
...24. Thrones. Hours. Watches. Each Hour a Gate and a Passage. The Ritual is an Operation in Time, as is Music. The Liturgy is a Key, as is the Missal.
...25. Two sets of Five fingers on Each Hand. The Power is in your Hands, if you are a Labourer. Snarky comments are unbecoming. Mockery is everywhere. Sometimes it works to your betterment. Sometimes it breaks you down with no intention of building you up again.
...26. There are this many Letters in the English-Latin Alphabet. The World of Words is a Key. How many Letters does it take to make a Logos?
...28. The Mage might have Numbers he actively avoids, driven perhaps by superstition and unreasonable paranoia. Twenty-eight is the second Perfect Number, after Six. The Moon is a Key.
...29. Some numbers will remain Invisible and Opaque to the Magus, until he or she makes a concerted effort to work with them. The Blind Spot is a Key.
...30. Fear not. Be aware. The Fool, or the Zeroth, hath no Value, and yet is oft the most valuable Card. The Card is a Key.

2020.11.19 03:41 KingKronx CMV: it's hypocritical of minority groups to often have the same atitudes they criticize in their "oppressors", but justifying it as a "reaction".

Do I think racism and xenophobia a blatant problem in society which needs to be addressed urgently? Yes.
Do I agree that historically, society has imposed absurd norms upon women that are still present in modern times? Yes.
However, I do NOT think this automatically excuse any group to do whatever they think they are entitled to do, at least not while holding others to different standards.
Initially, I don't think "False symmetry", "Reaction of the oppressed", are valid reasons to justify double standards.
You shouldn't criticize something while LITERALLY doing it.
Some examples of what I mean: You shouldn't complain about race jokes only when it's with your race.
You shouldn't complain about disrespect to religion only when said religion is not Christianity. Yes, Of course you should have the right to joke with religions, but you shouldn't hold different standards for each religion.
You shouldn't hold high standards for female harresment while minimizing men who feel harassed by women.
You shouldn't complain about "eurocentric beauty standards" driving "personal choice," while actively saying black people shouldn't date white people and literally harassing interracial couples.
You shouldn't silence someone's opinion on a topic just because they don't belong to X, Y, X group.
You shouldn't complain of stereotypes if you constantly generalize groups of people you deem "oppressors"', as "All _______ are ________".
TL;DR: Being a minority shouldn't give you the right to be a hypocrite.
Edit: Well I completely lost control of this thread. Some people made very valid points that haven't changed my views completely, but added some contexts I didn't consider. Thanks :)

2020.11.18 22:54 Snoo56482 My friend is getting engaged.

Im a sophomore in high school. My friend is a senior. I was raised as a christian, so naturally I met my best friend at church. Her parents are wayyy more fundamentalist and strict than my single mother though. I remember wearing a skirt to her place and she looked at me incredulously and said, "Wear leggings underneath your skirt! Do you want to get raped?" Back then, rape to me was still a relatively new and horrifying concept so that statement of hers harmed me. I now realize that it was indicative of the TOXICITY that her parents put on her. I can only imagine what rhetoric that they were teaching her behind closed doors. I remember another incident where she discovered a picture of me holding the middle finger up and went on a crying rant about the "sins of life" where she raved about what I was going to do with my life to prepare for eternity in heaven.
I know that if I was raised like she was, it would take years to deprogram myself of the misogynistic teachings and close minded beliefs. Don't get me wrong-my family is not any better, they still believe that anyone who is not a Christian is somehow morally degenerate because they dont have to rely on a god's law to dictate whether or not murder is wrong or something.
Her mother has always encouraged her to go after good, decent, CHRISTIAN men. Almost nobody would meet the mark because her mother was so judgmental. She and my mother both are the biggest shit-talkers I've ever seen, and the had no other hobbies other than slutshaming other women who dont fit into societal standards. It was then that my friend met her future husband. Despite the fact that he was 26 years old and she was only 16, her mother was enamored. She encouraged closely supervised dates between her and the man, and he brought her cakes every week and gave her lavish designer gifts. He seemed like a "Good guy" because he graduated from an Ivy League school, went to church, and was relatively making money (although I heard he got laid off of his job). Her parents (and mine) love to justify it by saying he's a GOOD CHRISTIAN MAN WHO CAN'T DO NO HARM and saying that her parents had an age gap too, it's totally fine! (except they were in their twenties/thirties when they met.)
And now he has proposed to her. They're getting married when she turns eighteen.
He's been grooming her for two years. Two years, and I was too concerned with my own life to notice because I thought her parents would have more sense.
I'm terrified. She's going to live the rest of her life as a Stepford wife to a man who groomed her. I can't live knowing that I could have told her my opinion. I can't live knowing the true extent of my family's radical beliefs, so radical they would support this. I'm hopeless.
We truly live in a world where women hate themselves enough to justify doing this to their own daughters. Women who uphold chastity and purity all for the approval of men and society. Pick-meism is more that just a surface level trait. It is much, much deeper than that.

2020.11.18 19:06 ShinobiTenzen Problems with Inpatient Treatment

It is said that at least 50% of youth in these facilities, while almost always admitted to these treatment centers for other behavioral reasons, have been the victim of prolonged sexual abuse, often by a parent, friend of the family, or some other authority figure or person of some type of revered social status in their lives.
This generally causes the behavioral problems they are admitted to these facilities for.
In every instance, a parent or guardian is required to give their consent, and the youth may also be remanded to these facilities by a judge and court order.
What happens, most often, is that the parents use these facilities as a "last hope" for trying to correct their children's behavior.
I have worked at such an Inpatient Care facility, a quite modern one, with a number of qualified Psychologists that would have daily or weekly sessions with youth, and they also had licensed teachers giving them their credit classes for High-school or even younger.
The problems, as I have seen them, are that 9 times out of 10, with the exception, perhaps, of very violent youth, are that the parents are given absolute control over their children, and society just accepts that as normal or as some unwritten rule. We let the parents have that control, and feel they are beyond reproach in their dealings with those in their care, really without question.
We believe it's ok for a racist parent to raise a racist kid, or for a Mormon parent to raise a Mormon kid, or some other religion's parent to raise a kid to be in that religion, or for a straight parent to raise a straight kid, a Trump supporter can raise a Trump supporter, a Liberal parent can raise a Liberal kid, a gay parent, a gay kid, a Capitalist can raise a Capitalist kid, a Communist parent, a Communist kid, and so on.
We believe that if the kid doesn't want to be in that religion, or in some other way doesn't want to be or can't fit into their parents' ideas for what constitutes normal and what normal behaviors should be, that is those parents' right to take corrective action and discipline, corporal punishment, grounding and taking things from them, and other manipulative and coercive behaviors with the sole intent and purpose of making their kid more like them, to think like them, believe like them, worship like them, and date others in the ways they did.
We find that normal, and a God-given right of the parents to mold the child into the parents' own image, according to their own expectations and standards.
Perhaps this is most prevalent in Puritanicalism and in Protestant Branch of religions, where people were forced to conform and adhere to a very set and specific group of beliefs and fears in a God, and could be punished any way they deemed appropriate in order to "save their soul", and there were no means which did not justify those ends, and they went unquestioned out of the same fears.
This essentially results in what is most commonly a very American set of problems and behaviors, in how the children are treated.
There are very few examples around the world of such horrifically abusive and controlling parenting schemes as that which we find in America, coming from American parents, who treat their children much how a Priest or Pastor or other religious leader may have treated the people in their community in early-day New England, in Salem, for example. Hellfire, Wrath, Vengeance, Despotism, Tyranny, Fear, Absolutism, Totalitarianism, and Power-mongering is essentially what the average American child endures throughout their life. They are forced to dress a certain way, wear the world's tiniest business suit, be forced to attend church, be yelled at for not wanting to go, or do, or say any of the things their radical and extremist parents want them to do, neigh, require them to do.
American parents are, in truth and fact, very abusive personalities, who believe it is their right to do with as they wish with their kids, as if the kids are their own personal property and personal play thing, and they're in a race to make that kid into the best version of their own perceived failures and successes as possible.
What Americans lack (and certainly not confined solely to America) is a general respect for their children, as human beings, with their own equal rights.
You can hit a kid and maybe the kid is just removed from the home, and only after a long history of abuse, and not just regular abuse, but very bad abuse. If you hit an adult, your are immediately charged with Felony Assault and thrown in jail. Again, we treat adults in society better than we treat the most vulnerable and exploited demographic there is, the children.
Our Protestant Puritanicalism has brought us here, to where we're perhaps the only country on planet earth to take away people's rights until they're 18. in most countries on earth, 16 is considered an adult, and they can even buy alcohol and smoke at 16, and make any other decision they want to.
Would an American parent accept that? absolutely not! They MUST have the child under their total control until they are 18, and many there are who would rather that control be extended to 21, or even lifelong. At 17, American parents are treating their children like they did when they were 10, with all the same power, control, authority, commands, and dictates of the most lunatic of fanatical world dictators. In fact, American parents behave almost identically in word and behavior to some Old Testament Biblical Omnipotent, Supreme, and Almighty God of All Creation, Ruler of the Universe, Master of Time and Space.
It's absurdly ridiculous.
Most of the youth at these facilities are there solely because they violated some insane dictate that plopped out of their parents brains, stemming from their own anti-social, quasi-christian upbringing. I say quasi-christian because most of the world's Christian cultures outside of America are actually very passive, calm, peaceful and Hands-off, because actual Christians know everything is in God's hands, and not their own, and their only job as parents is to be kind and calm, without conditions and limitations.
Thusly, the overwhelming majority of these Youth, teens, sovereign adults in other countries, are there because they had the audacity to not go to church, or to prefer saying "naughty" words, to have sex with someone they loved or had a sexual, consensual interest in, or to be attracted to someone not of the gender their parents believe you're not allowed to look at for too long, or to be gay and proud, or be to flamboyant and creative, or not be interested in manly manish man's man stuff, or because they wanted to dress in a way that made them feel most comfortable, or because they thought, very mistakenly, they might even be able to talk to their parents like an adult, and their parents might, just might, listen to and respect them almost as much as they do literally any other adult stranger on the planet.
These are people, equal to you or to me, and often times much smarter, who are certainly capable of making up their own minds regarding their own lives, decisions, and behaviors, who have been abused, essentially their entire lives, in the homes of parents who genuinely believe they are being loving and that their brand of love is not the same as abuse because "it's coming from a place of love".
And we send these poor abused human souls to these treatment facilities, often violently and abruptly, as if they are not humans, but cattle, stripped of every ounce of decision making ability, self-worth, and any and all dignity, where they are further belittled, attacked, and abused by staff, administration and counselors who have all been raised in similarly abusive households, and who also believe, systemically now, in this cultural abuse of these somewhat younger, very easily controlled and manipulated people.
It's a horrific system of systemic abuse. We take the abused, and abuse them further, further shaming them, and compelling them to be more like how their parents want them to be. The counselors in these places essentially act as policing enforcers to force the parents' will onto the children for them, when they couldn't effectively get it done at home.
A solution would be to give children a voice in society. Listen to them. Give them a forum, create laws which protect their civil rights and civil liberties in the home, and which change the role of parents from Absolute Despotism to one of stewardship and servitude, serving their children needs, unable to force them into their own personality cult, or religious cult, etc, and giving them same decision-making ability as any adult has, give them access to religious and political information from grade school, in all public schools and public facilities, and make forcing personal beliefs on others a punishable form of abuse, even if it's your own children. They don't exist to become a little mini-you, and do all the crap you like to do and believe all the same things you like to do.
Give them their own knowledge, all the knowledge available, and let them make their own decisions, and protect those decisions. Lower the age of Adult to 16, and require parents to provide shelter and food for them until they're 18, with no strings attached and no controlling measures taking away their freedoms to do as they wish, and make religion something the child has to take a mandatory class to learn about, and willing sign up for before their parents can drag them there and indoctrinate them into their systems of hatred, racism and bigotry.
And at the very least, stop enabling abusive parents and pandering to the parents' own mental disorders by projecting that disorder and garbage baggage onto the innocent youth.

2020.11.17 22:09 EliraInEytheria I Don't Know if I've Created a Tulpa or if I'm Just Insane - The Story of Elira and I

Okay, this is a very long post so buckle in. I’ve actually created a reading of this post on YouTube for your convenience if you don’t want to have to read all this.
I’ve had a fully sentient, self-aware female dragon following me around for 10+ years. This is the first time I’ve told anyone about this, and I feel insane just writing it, so yeah…
First off, I don’t “imagine” anything else. I’m a successful small business owner and have no history of mental illness other than occasional (once or twice a year) depression. I didn’t even play pretend as a child and I never had an imaginary friend. Maybe I’m making up for that now? I dunno. I’m 30 years old and I live alone unless you count Elira (my “tulpa” or “imaginary friend” or whatever you want to call her).
It all started with a very vivid dream back in 2010. The dream itself didn’t make much sense. It was more like flashes of memory than an actual interactive dream.
In the first flash, I was living in a cave with a dragon, sleeping next to it on a small improvised cot. Then I saw myself (I was in a different human’s body, but I somehow KNEW it was me if that makes any sense) skinning a deer and preparing it next to a fire.
Then in the next flash I saw myself hugging this dragon. Both our eyes were closed and I felt a sense of love that I’ve never felt in my current life. Then in the next flash I saw us by a river and I was an old man. She (this was the first time I was able to discern her gender) went into the water to bathe and I simply sat there on the bank of the river, enjoying the gentle breeze.
Then another flash and I was looking out of our cave down at a village near a lake and I heard the most horrifying scream I’ve ever heard in my mind (it was a telepathic scream, if that makes any sense). I knew instantly that it was her.
Then another flash and I was in front of her. She was lying halfway in the shallow water of the lake that was near the village, her body covered in wounds with a few dozen arrows sticking out of her. She was covered in blood. The humans who lived in the settlement had mortally wounded her, but she wasn’t dead yet. I ran into the shallow water to be with her and collapsed onto my knees. The feeling of dread/horror was so intense. I did my best to comfort her and with her last ounce of strength she lifted her head and we kissed. I begged her not to leave me but she succumbed to her wounds shortly thereafter.
I woke up sobbing. It had felt absolutely real. Although the dream wasn’t detailed, the emotions were raw and extremely intense. I cried for hours before forcing myself to get up and get ready. I kept going over the dream in my mind and I was an absolute mess the entire day. I’d never made so many mistakes in my entire life and I had to leave early and leave things to my employees before I fucked something up majorly.
At this point I didn’t know the dragon’s name or anything about her. All I knew is that I had intense feelings for her. It took several days but I finally came to accept that these were memories. I had tried to brush them off as best I could. I didn’t believe in reincarnation, let alone dragons. But the memories were so real. I couldn’t have just pulled these events out of my ass and her…I couldn’t have just imagined her.
Shortly thereafter I started feeling like I was being watched. I’d get chills down my spine for no reason. This feeling continued when I was alone and eventually, I realized that it was her. I was feeling her presence. I started talking to her and asking if she was real. I felt like a fucking schizo, but when I would talk to her and ask her questions, the answers would just come to me. It’s hard to explain. It wasn’t speech, but more like a primitive form of telepathic communication. I couldn’t “see” her, but I could feel her presence.
Eventually I started to “hear” her voice. I put “hear” in parentheses because just like I couldn’t “see” her with my eyes, I couldn’t actually hear her with my ears. The best way I can describe it is hearing a character’s voice in your mind from a cartoon show (say, Mickey Mouse). You can’t really “hear” Mickey Mouse, but you know what it would sound like if he were to say something.
Her voice was very distinctive, furthering my belief that what I was dealing with was real and not some figment of my imagination. Can you just invent a distinctive sounding voice in your head? I dunno. I decided to try just to see if I could do it, and I couldn’t.
Anyway, now that I could hear her, I opened the floodgates and started asking her about herself and about my dream and what I believed to be memories that had surfaced and she started to fill in the details. Her name was Elira and according to her, we were mates in a past life. My dream had actually been real memories from back then, and my remembering her is what helped her to come through to this physical reality and be able to talk to me like this. She told me that she had been looking for me for a long time and that she was so happy and excited to finally see me again. After she had found me, she caused my memories to surface in my dreams so that she could be with me again.
At this point I’m pretty suspicious. In the back of my mind I haven’t dismissed the idea that I might be going crazy, but putting that aside for a moment I remember all the ancient superstitions from many different cultures. Demons in the Christian religion, the jinn from Islam, the kitsune from Japanese mythology, the succubus from English folklore, etc. They all have one thing in common. They’re evil tricksters that interact with humans, in some cases seducing them in order to harm them. Now I’m an educated man with a background in science and I’ve never put much credence in these myths, but the existence of such a creature sounded more believable to me than what she was telling me.
That was when I first became aware of the fact that she could read my mind. She was quite confused by my thoughts and asked me what those things were. Only then did I realize that we had been together so many years ago that it pre-dated Christianity. Like…holy fuck! NOTE: I did some research later and approximated the date to be about 4,000 years ago.
We talked for so freaking long. Apparently, reincarnation is real, but not for dragons. When dragons die, they go to a place she calls Eytheria (ya-theer-iya). It’s a place where space, time, and thought are all one and the same. It is possible for a dragon to leave Eytheria for brief periods of time (no more than a few days), but they’re like fish out of water and must go back there to sustain their life force.
I’m completely blown away by all of this. There’s no way I could be making all this shit up on the spot. But one thing really bothers me so I decide to ask her why there are no dragon bones if dragons really existed. She’s quite surprised by my question but she doesn’t miss a beat. According to her, when a dragon dies, the body dissolves completely within a few days. I have no idea how that works, but honestly neither do the dragons. Dragons had a comparatively advanced culture, but since they went extinct thousands of years ago, that culture is quite old/primitive by today’s standards. They had no concept of chemistry or science so she’s not able to explain to me why their bodies dissolved after death. Maybe someone with a background in biochemistry can explain it.
Anyway, so we get to know each other over the next few weeks. I know what she looks like only from my memories, which she helps me to recover more of. She keeps calling me by the name I had back then and not my current name, which I find mildly annoying, but I can understand why she does this. It’s bad enough that I’m in a completely different body now, and calling me by my old name makes her feel better about it.
Unfortunately, this post is too long for Reddit, so you can read the whole thing on Google Docs:
I really debated actually publishing this. I don't like putting personal stuff on the internet and this...this is about as personal as it can get.

G’day folks. This week I am publishing a set of my current favourite heavy music rotation. There is enough variation of Christian deathcore bands in here to make anyone think I was religious, but it’s not the case. I still really like a lot of this music and I like the messages presented, even if it happens to be delivered by people with different beliefs to me. So here is some information on the tracks as well as my song choice rationale for this week’s playlist:
Beast - The Acacia Strain: [Genres: Metalcore, Deathcore] This is not only The Acacia Strains most popular song on Spotify, but it’s the opening track to my personal favourite album of theirs. There are some pretty intense lyrics, but it’s clear a lot of people have struggled thor lives and this track seems to represent some unease with the world through a feeling of being disenfranchised or exiled. Wormwood is a beast album, released 10 years ago and still bangs hard. I want to go on record to say that I want to live to see the day when the world screams gasping for air, unanswered cries because nobody cares (not even in quotation marks), ooof. What a beast band and a beast song.
Strength - For All Eternity: [Genres: Metalcore, Christian hardcore, Christian metal, Post-hardcore] I have been absolutely rinsing this album recently. I used to listen to this Australian metalcore band many years ago and have recently found great enjoyment in bringing them back into my music rotations. This is a good bouncy track off the album: “Beyond the Gates”. A good track to jump around too that makes me feel empowered. The song is about how religion has given strength and how this strength is owed to God. I like to think of this in a similar way, but replace the deity with the marvel of evolution. “Blood that is not my own” but that of nature's impeccable ability to facilitate life. despite the fact that it's deathcore, this song is actually quite I've lifting and motivational.
King - For Today: [Genres: Metalcore] This American Christian metalcore band “For Today” has a really big sound in this album. The use of base booms are quite prevalent, and this song flows very well while changing timing multiple times. It’s very bouncy and energetic with Mattie Montgomery displaying a brutal effort on lead vocals. The breakdown (starting at just after halfway through the track) is fucking tough, but it isn’t unique in many ways, just your standard 2010 breakdown, haha. I liked this time for deathcore. Long live the king…? Blind King…?
Blink Kings - Chelsea Grin: [Genre: Deathcore] This is the newest single by the American deathcore band: Chelsea Grin. I haven't listened to Chelsea Grin in a long time, damn... Would you expect a 2020 “deathcore” single from a band popularised around ten years ago (in the days of mass produced deathcore) to have absolutely no clean vocals?... Well it doesn't have any clean vocals like you may have predicted, which is nice… stay true Chelsea Grin. The Breakdown (at 1:30) is straight up: tough, with variations in timing part way through, very worth almost ¼ of the song. Other than the two breakdowns, it’s a very fast track, it’s well mixed (compared to previous albums IMO). Overall, a solid track with agreeable lyrics that address the division of humans through hate and our need to overcome it. I would have also loved to post this cover of Chelsea Grin’s: “My Damnation” by one of my favourite vocalists: Dan Watson (from early Infant Annihilator and now Enterprise Earth) but this version is not available on Spotify so, if you’re interested in hearing this (not very well recorded but) very brutal version of the track, I encourage you to do so.
Genesis - Northlane: [Genres: Metalcore, Progressive metal, Alternative metal] This is the opening track for the Australian metalcore bands second studio album: Singularity, released in 2013. I really like the drum tracking in this song. I believe that this track and the second track off the album should be played in succession.
Scarab - Northlane: [Genres: Metalcore, Progressive metal, Alternative metal] Leading in from the previous track comes this fast paced track song about how suffering is common place for all of us, but the burden of pain has been felt for the last time. There’s also something mentioned about how lucid wisdom is present in every atom of the golden mind of Thoth (an ancient Egyptian deity), we may very well be the Gods, who have lost ourselves in various forms. Anyway, a lot of religious content in this week’s set. The next track will remedy that...
My Urge To Kill - The Monsters: [Genre: Deathcore] This track is fucking insane. It’s one of the most bouncy and intense tracks I’ve had the privilege of coming across over the past couple of years. The lyrics of this track cover a story about an individual who is overwhelmed with the urge to kill and it covers some pretty dark content, however, the brutality of this song raises hairs on my arms. The section that follows the spoken word is so good and the end of the track has one of the most bouncy riffs, you can’t help but move. It’s not recorded incredibly well, but it’s tough as fuck. Interesting fact, this track is off an album in a discography that doesn’t actually belong to the artists of this album. The Monsters (as known from Spongebob Squarepants) apparently have the same name as the deathcore band “The Monsters” (formally known as “Monsters”) therefore their tracks are now mixed in with another group from a completely different genre.
Greater Distance - The Ghost Inside: [Genres: melodic metalcore, metalcore, deathcore, melodic hardcore, screamo] This perfect two-stepping track from the 2010 album “Returners” by the metalcore band: “The Ghost Inside” (formerly known as A Dying Dream) is pretty damn bumpin’ … “It’s just within your reach, BLEH!” This album is a classic from my years of growing up in the metal scene. I think it offers a good message of motivation for those who see the world in a (negative way
The Final Hour - Molotov Solution: [Genres: deathcore, progressive deathcore, melodic metalcore] This track is off my personal playlist: “This Fucking World, Ey?”: A playlist dedicated to observational world views and their manifestations. Something interesting to think about in the state of the world. I believe this song features the vocalist: Adam from Oceano, either that or the vocalists are very similar in style. It’s some intense stuff.
Monster - Betraying The Martyrs: [Genres: melodic metalcore, metalcore, deathcore, post-screamo] This is primal. This song is a beast. I haven’t listened to a bunch of BTM’s new stuff, but this track off the 2019 album: Rapture fits the theme.
Become the Hunter - Suicide Silence Darius Tehrani: [Genres: deathcore, melodic metalcore, metalcore, screamo] This is the latest release by Suicide Silence, featuring Darius Tehrani. The guitar solos have improved, but to me it all seems a bit sterile. I still have a soft spot for Suicide Silence.
Kill or Be Killed - Spite: [Genres: progressive deathcore, metallic hardcore, deathcore] I love the rawness of this track. It reminds me of nature. Hustle hard homies. Keep it real.
Invisible Enemy - August Burns Red: [Genres: melodic metalcore, metalcore, christian metalcore, christian metal, screamo] ABR coming out with the bouncy grooves. This track addresses some familiar concepts to world worries. We just need to get back to our animal nature.
Human Harvest - Oceano: [Genres: deathcore, melodic metalcore, progressive deathcore] Addressing the unsustainability of human trajectory. “Only an eligible few will be guided to evade the event. The human harvest has commenced” A message to humanity, or those who choose to listen. This band is top-notch. Ada (the vocalist) is an absolute beast. They have a very brutal sound. Total respect to Oceano for banging out the high quality stuff.
Murderer - Impending Doom: [Genres: christian deathcore, deathcore, christian hardcore, melodic metalcore, christian metal] Yes, another Christian metal band, Impending Doom have one of the most phenomenal production quality in metal. It has to be said that these heavier genres of music are not commonly well produced but Impending Doom has some magic when it comes to engineering very nice mixes. This track has the most amount of base booms in succession out of any song I have ever come across.
Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace: [Genres: alternative metal, canadian rock, canadian metal, post-grunge, nu metal] This is a good favourite of mine by Three Days Grace that I think fits the theme. This song addresses the vulnerabilities we have while also accepting that we are the way we are. It’s straight up dad-rock, but it’s a good tune.
Thoughts & Prayers - Manga Saint Hilare: [Genres: uk alternative hip hop, grime] This is a teaser track for next week’s theme. It’s already been featured in previous Ⓙ Rebrand playlists and also on the Ⓙ Rebrand Throwbacks playlist.
